In its 25-year ‘hissstory’, there is one Dodge Viper that has become one of the most iconic and sought-after. The 1996 Dodge Viper GTS Coupe. As the first Viper model under the second generation (GEN II) banner, it marked the first time that creature comforts like air conditioning, roll-up windows, power door locks, and airbags.

With its iconic Viper Blue exterior color and Stone White stripe paint job, the car became an instant hit. Paying homage to the Shelby Daytona Coupe that inspired it, the Viper GTS Coupe became the dream car for adults and teenagers alike.

In January, we saw a 1996 Dodge Viper GTS Coupe with 5,084 miles on its odometer go for $148,000 at Mecum Kissimmee. This particular car, shown in this article is scheduled to cross the auction block at Mecum Chicago, this month and only has 4,661 original miles on it.

Of course, it is powered by a 450 horsepower and 490 lb.-ft. of torque 8.0-liter (488 cubic inch) VIPER V10. At the time, the GTS Coupe had 50 horsepower and 25 lb.-ft. of torque over its roadster sibling for the 1996 model year. And like all Viper models, the V10 was mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

This car also features a set of custom 19-inch HRE performance wheels wrapped with Nitto rubber (275/30ZR19 front, 335/30ZR19 rear). But for those who like the factory look, the original wheels and tires are also included in the sale.

We are super curious to see how much this example goes for, once it crosses the block.
