Automotive News Europe announced last week, that it had named Mark Adams, Opel Vice President of Design one of its 2021 Eurostars. The annual ranking highlights the 17 best decision-makers in the European automotive industry. The winners met last week during the International Motor Show (IAA) in Munich, Germany.
Mark Adams was awarded for the design quality of the new Opel Mokka. “With the small SUV Mokka, Mark Adams and his team have started a radical overhaul of design at Opel. By launching the Mokka, the manufacturer wanted to offer a vehicle that attracts attention and changes the perception of the brand,” underlined Automotive News Europe.
This year’s awards mark the 24th time that Eurostars reward those who play an important role for manufacturers. “The 17 people we are honoring this year have overcome unprecedented professional and personal challenges during and after the pandemic. The flexibility and talent they have shown in such difficult times are remarkable. They help bring the automotive industry into a new era in a cost-effective manner, ”said Luca Ciferri, editor and deputy editor of Automotive News Europe.
The Opel Mokka was the first vehicle in the brand’s lineup to introduce the new Opel Vizor design language, highlighting the direction of the brand. As with a full-face helmet, a protective visor covers the new Opel front end, bringing together the vehicle’s grille, LED headlights, and the newly designed Opel Blitz emblem in a single element. It is distinguished by reduced overhangs and a strong footing on the road. This 4.15-meter (13-foot, 6-inch) long five-seater takes up the sober and pure design of the brand. The vehicle’s nameplate appears in the center of the tailgate with a specially designed font that forms the word “Mokka” in a technical, fluid, and lively manner.
The interior also adopts this clear line. The Opel Pure Panel integrates two large screens and delivers information that focuses on the essentials. The Pure Panel is based on a unique design. It is clearly structured and understandable at a glance. The Mokka is available in an all-electric version as well as with internal combustion engines (ICEs).
