AUCTION: 5.7-liter HEMI®-Powered 1970 Dodge Challenger

6-Speed Manual, Modern HEMI Power, and Classic Good Looks

If you’re looking for a sweet mix of old-school muscle and modern performance, check out this 1970 Dodge Challenger currently listed on BringATrailer.com. This slick coupe was given a full refresh, blending vintage Mopar vibes with a Gen3 5.7-liter (345 cubic-inch) HEMI® V8 and a Tremec 5-speed manual to back it up.

Originally sprayed Light Gold Metallic (FY4) from the factory, this Challenger was refinished in bright red back in the 1990s. In 2015, the seller added a fresh white vinyl top and repaired the trunk floor. More recently in 2024, they also installed a Rallye-style hood painted to match. Chrome bumpers with bumper guards, HEMI badges, and quad rectangular exhaust tips complete the aggressive look.

Underneath, things get even better. The front end is upgraded with an AlterKtion suspension setup featuring Ridetech coilovers and rack-and-pinion steering, making it handle way sharper than it did back in the day. Braking was improved too with a Wilwood master cylinder and front cross-drilled and slotted disc brakes, while the rear sticks with classic drums. It sits on silver-finished 17-inch × 8-inch Rallye wheels wrapped in sticky 235/45 General G Max rubber.

Inside, the car keeps the vintage feel with white vinyl bucket seats and a matching rear bench, accented by woodgrain trim and black carpeting. There’s a center console with a pistol-grip shifter, an AM/FM radio, and even air conditioning to keep things cool. The seller points out a little fading on the seat piping, but overall it looks super clean.

Instrumentation is simple and classic — a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for fuel, temp, and alternator status. The five-digit odometer shows about 12k miles, but it’s believed to have rolled over at least once.

Under the hood sits a Gen3 5.7-liter HEMI® crate motor, installed in 2020 along with a custom air intake and an aluminum radiator for better cooling. Exhaust flows through full-length headers into a dual MagnaFlow setup, so you know it sounds mean. Power hits the pavement through a Tremec 5-speed and a rebuilt Sure-Grip rear differential done back in 2017.

The car comes with its original broadcast sheet, service and parts records, and even an old-school photo showing it before the modifications. It’s titled in Washington State with a Classic branding.
