All-Electric Jeep® Recon To Take On Land Rover Defender In Europe
New Off-Road BEV Will Slot Under The Wrangler...
Jeep, the American automaker and part of the Stellantis group, has confirmed that its first 100% electric off-road vehicle, the Jeep Recon (EJ), will debut in 2025. The announcement was made by Antonella Bruno, the head of Jeep® Europe, during a recent interview with the British automotive magazine Autocar.
In addition to the Jeep Recon, Jeep also plans to launch another fully electric model by 2025, currently known as the Jeep Wagoneer S (KX). Jeep fans will have the opportunity to vote on a new name for the vehicle, which will be revealed in due course.
According to Bruno, the Jeep Recon will be offered in the Jeep range alongside the Jeep Wrangler, but the two models will not be part of the same segment. The electric vehicle will be one step below the Wrangler in terms of size and will compete directly with the Land Rover Defender.
The Jeep Recon will be built on the STLA Large platform and will have a distinctive square shape, as seen in teaser images released last year. Jeep aims to become a leader in the electric car segment with the launch of the Recon and other electric models, following the successful launch of the first zero-emission model, the Jeep Avenger (JJ), last year.
“Globally, we want to be the 4×4 leaders in electrification,” Bruno said. With the launch of the Recon and other electric models, Jeep hopes to achieve this goal and establish itself as a leader in the electric car market.
