UPDATE: Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet Recalled Due To Label Error
Incorrect Weight Capacity Label Lead To Newest Recall...
This article has been updated since its original March 13th, 2024 publish date…
Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 36,093 units of its 2023 to 2024 Dodge Hornet (GG) and Alfa Romeo Tonale (GC). The recall states that the maximum Vehicle Capacity Weight (VCW) on the tire placard is incorrect. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of (FMVSS) No. 110, “Tire Selection and Rims.”
A driver may rely on the incorrect VCW and overload the vehicle, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.
Recall Chronology –
- On January 30, 2024, FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of a potential issue on certain vehicles related to the VCW on the tire label, potentially not in compliance with FMVSS No. 110.
- From February 7, 2024, through February 23, 2024, Stellantis Europe S.p.A. Customer Experience (“CX”) reviewed production data and assembly plant records and determined that affected vehicles may have been built with an incorrect VCW value which may not be in compliance with FMVSS No. 110.
- On February 23, 2024, the Stellantis Europe S.p.A. organization recognized a non-compliance issue on certain vehicles related to the incorrect tire placard values, potentially resulting in noncompliance with FMVSS No. 110.
- On February 27, 2024, Stellantis Europe S.p.A determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.
