Alfa Romeo has welcomed Finnish F1 driver, Valtteri Bottas, to its exclusive club of customers for the limited-edition Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA. The car is the most powerful Alfa Romeo ever built, with only 500 units available. During the handover of the car, Alfa Romeo’s top representatives, including CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato and Head of Design, Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, were present to celebrate the moment.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA is a high-performance vehicle that has revived one of the brand’s milestones and legends, the 1965 Giulia GTA. The car represents an authentic return to Alfa Romeo’s roots, founded in the world of performance and grand touring. The vehicle is based on the Giulia Quadrifoglio, with extensive adoption of ultralight materials, which has resulted in a weight reduction of up to 100 kg (220 lbs) compared to the Quadrifoglio. The Giulia GTA also features an upgraded version of Alfa Romeo’s 2.9 V-6 Bi-Turbo engine with 540 horsepower, improved aerodynamics, and handling.
Alfa Romeo engineers were able to benefit from the expertise and facilities of Sauber Engineering, a Swiss company with more than 50 years of experience in motorsports, 27 years in F1, and advanced know-how on aerodynamics. The Sauber team actively participated in the design, prototyping, and manufacturing of aerodynamic components for the new Giulia GTA.
The initials GTA represent “Gran Turismo Alleggerita” (“Gran Turismo Lite”), invented in 1965 for the Giulia Sprint GTA, a specific version derived from the Sprint GT. The vehicle was created for racing and was unveiled at the Amsterdam Motor Show that year. The GTA has become an undisputed icon of Biscione sportsmanship and a historic marker, with numerous sporting successes, including three consecutive “Challenge Europeo Marche,” dozens of national championships, and hundreds of single races all over the world.
Valtteri Bottas expressed his enthusiasm for the Alfa Romeo brand, calling it an honor to become a customer and an owner of one of the 500 Giulia GTAs. He also praised the car’s technical excellence, realized in collaboration with Sauber Engineering, and its unique and distinctive styling appeal. Alfa Romeo F1 Manager Cristiano Fiorio described Bottas as an exceptional professional and welcomed him to the heart of Alfa Romeo, adding that passion drove Bottas’ choice to own the Giulia GTA.
