AEV’s New Ram 2500 Prospector XL Is a Heavy-Duty Beast

The Ultimate Ram 2500 Rebel for Overlanding

When it comes to heavy-duty trucks that can handle serious off-road abuse, the 2025 Ram 2500 Rebel already checks a lot of boxes. It comes standard with off-road-focused suspension, skid plates, 33-inch tires, and a rear limited-slip differential with an electronic locker. Powered by either the 6.4-liter HEMI® “Big Gas Engine” V8 or the 6.7-liter Cummins I6 High-Output (H/O) turbodiesel, the Rebel is built to play rough. But what if you need more—much more? That’s where American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) and their Prospector XL package come in, transforming an already capable Rebel into the ultimate go-anywhere, do-anything adventure rig.

This particular build started life as a Granite Crystal 2025 Ram 2500 Rebel Crew Cab with a 6-foot, 4-inch bed. Built for Rocky Mountain Yeti Jackson, AEV gave it a rugged new Mojave Sand-like finish and loaded it with every piece of off-road hardware they could throw at it. The result is a heavy-duty truck that’s as comfortable crawling over boulders and wading through rivers as it is hauling a trailer on the open highway.

Extreme Exterior Upgrades –

AEV’s Prospector XL is all about capability and protection. Up front, the truck sports AEV’s stamped steel front bumper with a low tube design. It’s winch-ready and even fitted with a massive Warn 16.5S winch for self-recovery in the roughest terrain. The bumper integrates 30,000-pound-rated ductile iron tow loops that double as Hi-Lift jack points and rock wear plates.

HighMark fender flares open up the wheel wells to fit 40-inch tall off-road tires on AEV Salta XD wheels. Skid plates protect the fuel tank, transfer case, and intercooler, while splash guards add another layer of armor. The rear bumper is heavy-duty steel with high clearance for better departure angles, Baja Designs LED lighting, and heavy-duty recovery points for D-ring shackles. AEV even relocated the trail camera to ensure the view isn’t obstructed by the brush guard or winch.

A functional AEV Snorkel with an Air Ram allows the Prospector XL to breathe clean air in dusty desert conditions or when fording deep water. The custom Mojave Sand-inspired paint job, combined with the AEV Paint Appearance Package and Black Branding Package, makes this rig look as serious as it performs.

Suspension & Driveline Built For Anything –

The backbone of the Prospector XL is AEV’s 3-inch DualSport RT Suspension System, which is designed to deliver off-road articulation without compromising payload or towing capacity. To take it a step further, this build features AEV/Bilstein 8100 Series shocks, providing exceptional control on and off the pavement. Front and rear differential covers add durability for rocky terrain, and hydraulic-assist steering ensures the massive 40-inch tires can turn smoothly under all conditions.

Unlike many extreme off-road builds that lose practicality, AEV engineers the Prospector XL to keep its center of gravity as low as possible. That means it still handles well on the road and can tow or haul like a Ram Heavy Duty should. This truck is equally at home on an overlanding expedition or pulling a trailer loaded with toys for a weekend getaway.

Fully Outfitted Interior & Utility –

Inside, the Prospector XL carries subtle AEV touches like logo-embroidered headrests and a unique instrument panel cluster. While this build didn’t go overboard on interior modifications, the focus is on rugged function and durability for long hauls off the grid.

On top of the AEV upgrades, a Go Fast Camper (GFC) with front and rear window kits adds overlanding flexibility, turning this truck into a self-contained backcountry basecamp. With the optional Mopar power side steps, accessing the cab and bed is easier even with the added lift and 40-inch tires.

The Price Of Ultimate Capability –

Building the ultimate adventure-ready Ram doesn’t come cheap. The donor 2025 Ram 2500 Rebel rings in at $94,695. AEV’s upgrades add another $63,744, which includes the $24,399 base Prospector XL package, plus optional equipment like the winch, snorkel, Bilstein 8100 shock upgrade, and custom paint. Add $2,500 for shipping, and the final tally for this Mojave Sand monster comes to $160,939.

For that price, you get a factory-backed, fully integrated build that’s as close to unstoppable as a heavy-duty pickup can get. AEV’s Prospector XL isn’t for casual weekend off-roaders—it’s for serious enthusiasts and overlanders who want a truck that can survive the most challenging terrain and get them back home safely.

The 2025 Ram 2500 Rebel is already one of the most capable off-road heavy-duty trucks on the market. But with AEV’s Prospector XL package, it becomes a true expedition vehicle. With 40-inch tires, heavy-duty steel bumpers, a snorkel, high-clearance suspension, and a host of overlanding accessories, this build is a rolling testament to capability and craftsmanship.
