1991 Jeep® Grand Wagoneer Final Edition Hits BringATrailer

Hunter Green-Colored Final Edition Evokes The Awesomeness Of The SJ

There are certain vehicles that transcend trends, and for me, the 1991 Jeep® Grand Wagoneer Final Edition sits firmly at the top of that list. It wasn’t just the end of a model year — it marked the final chapter of the beloved SJ platform, a full-size luxury SUV that blended old-school American toughness with genuine comfort long before that formula became mainstream. When one shows up finished in Hunter Green, it immediately gets my attention.

Now, one such example is up for grabs on BringATrailer, and it checks nearly every box. This 1991 Grand Wagoneer Final Edition is believed to be one of fewer than 200 factory-finished in Hunter Green Metallic, making it an exceptionally rare configuration of an already collectible SUV. According to the selling dealer, the truck was purchased by its current owner in 2016 from Wagonmaster in Kerrville, Texas — a name well known in Grand Wagoneer circles.

What really sets this example apart is the depth of work performed since that time. Over $100,000 has reportedly been invested into restoring, refurbishing, and modernizing the vehicle while keeping its classic character intact. Body repairs and paintwork were carried out between 2018 and 2019, addressing known rust-prone areas such as the door bottoms and roof sections. The sunroof was removed during the process, and additional repairs were made to the right front area and door sills. The rear roof section was replaced in 2021, and the bumpers were replated in 2020. While some minor paint scratches are noted, the overall presentation remains impressive.

Underneath, the suspension and steering were refreshed with new springs, shocks, and a replacement steering gearbox. The braking system received new lines, hoses, wheel cylinders, and shoes. Factory-style 15-inch wheels are wrapped in 235/75 Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires, giving it the right mix of period-correct appearance and modern drivability.

Inside, the cabin has been reupholstered in Sand leather and cloth, staying true to the original look while benefiting from new seat frames and cushions. The front seats are heated and power-adjustable, the air conditioning was recharged in March 2025, and an Alpine stereo with Bluetooth adds a touch of modern convenience without feeling out of place.

Mechanically, this Grand Wagoneer has been completely gone through. The original 5.9-liter (360 cubic-inch) AMC V8 was rebuilt in 2018, bored .030-over, and balanced with new pistons and bearings. Howell throttle-body electronic fuel injection replaces the factory carburetor, controlled by a modified GM ECU for improved reliability and drivability. Supporting upgrades include COMP Cams valvetrain components, a Melling oil pump, HEI ignition, and a high-flow water pump. A custom 3-inch exhaust system with a Borla muffler gives it a subtle but authoritative sound.

The transmission and transfer case were also refreshed with new internal components, seals, and bearings, while rebuilt driveshaft U-joints help ensure smooth power delivery. The truck shows 81,000 miles, with roughly 3,000 added by the current owner. It’s offered at no reserve with manuals, service records, and a clean Massachusetts title.

No reserve bidding ends Tuesday, December 16 at 1:57 p.m. EDT — and for Grand Wagoneer enthusiasts, this one represents the dream configuration.
