Today’s HEMI® Day, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by spotlighting one of the boldest Jeep® concepts ever built—the Jeep Quicksand Concept. Originally revealed at the 2017 Easter Jeep Safari, this sand-slinging monster blends hot rod attitude with rugged off-road DNA. It’s raw, loud, and absolutely unforgettable.

At first glance, Quicksand looks like something out of a Mad Max film—longer than a stock two-door Wrangler, with chopped glass, an open cabin, and massive staggered tires. Jeep designers ditched the doors, chopped the windshield, and trimmed the body to create a low-slung, high-speed silhouette that screams “old-school dragster meets desert crawler.”

Under the hood? That’s where the real party starts. A Mopar 392 Crate HEMI® V8 sits front and center, making 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque. It breathes through an old-school eight-stack injection setup and barks through downturned open headers that blast sound like a cannon. A “peekaboo” cutout in the hood puts the HEMI® on display like a trophy, while a 6-speed Getrag manual transmission gives drivers total control over the madness.

Inside, the Quicksand’s cabin is pure hot rod. Two red low-back bucket seats, aluminum panels, toggle switches, and a Viper flat-bottom steering wheel keep it minimal but functional. The back seat? Gone. In its place: a fuel cell to keep that thirsty HEMI® well-fed. There’s even a switch labeled “OBNOXIOUS” to crank the exhaust noise to full volume—because subtlety just isn’t in this Jeep’s vocabulary.

Jeep also added some creative flair and Easter eggs throughout. A parachute at the rear hides a recovery rope, the front Moon tank conceals a winch, and the vintage-style fuel cap is labeled “Detroit Rocket Fuel Only.” It’s fun, it’s functional, and it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Despite the hot rod styling, Quicksand still knows how to wheel. Up front are 32-inch BFGoodrich KM2s, while the rear gets 37s—both on 18-inch kidney bean-style wheels. Coilover shocks and locking diffs make sure it stays planted no matter how wild the ride gets.

Quicksand was never meant for showrooms. It was built for fun—and to inspire. And on a day like HEMI® Day, it’s a perfect reminder of how far creativity can go when you combine heritage with horsepower. Jeep took its off-road icon and let Mopar run wild, and what came out of it was pure sand-slinging magic.
