Last year there was a slow trickle of Ram TRX information coming out, including the first test mules using 2020 Ram 1500 Limited Black bodies. While there hasn’t been any information leaked for the past few months, it looks like the information dam might be about to break.
Yesterday we received an email from one of our sources within FCA along with screenshot of the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) 2020 Calendar. SHAP is where the 2020 Ram 1500 is produced and according to the production calendar 2021 Ram TRX launch production will start on September 8th of this year. We were also told that the first pilot builds will start in April, with the unveiling likely to be at the North American International Autoshow in Detroit in early June.
Then, early this morning another one of our sources sent us a batch of spy photos of a fully camouflaged, pre-production 2021 Ram 1500 TRX out testing. Unlike early prototypes that had 8 lug wheels in the rear and 6 lug wheels in the front, this truck has 6 lug wheels all the way around. While the early mules had aftermarket Fuel wheels, these wheels look like they will he the production wheel on the TRX.
Around back, we can see the Dana rear end, tow hooks mounted below the bumper, and what looks to be a set of Goodyear Duratracs. Up top, we can see what looks to be a full LED third brake light which looks like it might contain a rear camera. We can also see how much wider the front and rear track is with the bulging fenders and bedsides, while there is padding behind the camo on the cab to make the fenders seem less pronounced to spy photographers.
The spy photographer said that the truck sounded extremely aggressive, and although it will be powered by the same Hellcat V8 that is in other products like the Charger, Challenger, and Trackhawk, the TRX had a different, deeper sound.
