The Jeep® brand’s commercial “Groundhog Day,” starring Bill Murray and featuring the 2020 Jeep Gladiator truck, was the most viewed commercial across social media during the week of Super Bowl LIV. The original format commercial on the Jeep brand’s YouTube channel has over 50 million views alone, at the writing time of this article. Now, for those who are huge Bill Murray fans or are a collector of Jeeps, one Michigan dealer has the exact truck used to film the commercial for sale on their lot.
Moore Motor Sales, located in Caro, Michigan is the dealer that currently has the truck in its inventory. Located in Michigan’s “Thumb” region, the rural area of Caro is one of the last places you would think that such a high-profile Jeep would be allocated to.
According to an article done in “Tuscola Today“, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) advertising department contacted the dealer and asked to use the vehicle in a frantic rush to complete the shooting of the commercial since Murray finally agreed to sign on in January, only a few weeks prior to the Super Bowl. The Michigan dealer, along with a dealer in Wisconsin that had a similar optioned Gladiator Rubicon, sent the vehicles to Woodstock, Illinois where the commercial was shot.
Moore Motors internet sales manager Denny King told Tuscola Today, that “The scenes with the groundhog in it where Bill is driving around town, and the bike scene – where Bill puts a little helmet on (the groundhog) and the Jeep is in the background – that’s our Jeep.”
The production company put about 20 miles on the Punk’n-colored Gladiator, before sending it back to Moore Motors. In all, the Jeep was gone from the lot for about three weeks and arrived five days after the ad made its official showing during the big game. There was even evidence of groundhog fur found in the front seats, as the ad was shot using a real-life groundhog.
The truck is fairly loaded with optioned out with a sticker price of $57,350 USD (before taxes, title, and etc). Currently, the dealer has $5,882 in dealer incentives on the Murray used Gladiator, putting the vehicle at the price of $51,468.
