SPIED: The 2022 Jeep® Grand Cherokee (WL75) Drops Even More Camo:

Our Best Look At The New Grand Cherokee Front End Yet...

The Jeep® brand continues to tease our spy photographers in this latest batch of photos, with even less camouflage on the brand’s upcoming 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WL) prototypes. We are getting a better look at the new three-row version of the all-new Grand Cherokee (codenamed WL75), and its more boxy styling compared to the current two-row Grand Cherokee (WK2) that we have come to know.

With the front end uncovered, we are getting our best look yet at the new front styling direction of Jeep’s new design language. Looking at the front end styling treatment of the new Grand Cherokee, we can see that Jeep is pulling some cues from its upcoming Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer (WS) lineup like the waterfall grille. The all-new LED headlamps, look very similar to the units found on the popular Cherokee (KL) midsize SUV.

We are lead to believe that this particular model is likely the top-tier Summit trim. The Summit trim is currently the most luxurious in the full-size segment and we expect that to continue in the all-new model as well. The current WK2 models come standard with the Quadra-Lift Air suspension system and the Quadra-Drive II four-wheel-drive (4×4) system includes an electronic limited-slip differential for the rear axle. Much of these systems will reappear on the new generation models, but according to our sources, the new WL models will feature even more ground clearance with the updated air suspension.

With multi-spoke aluminum wheels and dual rear-mounted exhaust bezels located in the rear bumper, it appears several of the current cues from the current luxury models will carry over. The camouflage swirl vinyl covers most of the chrome trim, that we have been told will go from the A-pillar, up over the side windows, and wrap underneath the rear window glass. We are told just above the rockers, another thick chrome piece will run along the bodyside at the bottom of the front and rear doors.

Under the hood, we expect that both the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 delivering 295 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque and the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI V8 packing 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines should be paired with ZF-sourced TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmissions.

Sorry EcoDiesel fans, there will be no diesel option this time around. Instead, we will be getting a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system that should be similar to the system found on the new Wrangler Unlimited 4xe. That system should be making its debut more than likely in 2022.

We are told that production of the new three-row WL75 model should be starting up in early March at Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s (FCA) new Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack on the eastside of Detroit. The two-row WL74 models are expected to start production sometime later in the summer of 2021. According to our sources, it could be only a matter of days till Jeep unveils the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee.
