Westen Champlin’s Ram TRX Packs 1,090 HP

Demon Long-Block Supercharged and Twin-Turbo'd TRX...

In his newest YouTube video, the Redneck Science guru Westen Champlin takes viewers on an exciting journey as he continues to modify his 2022 Ram 1500 TRX Ignition Edition. Renowned for its high-performance features, the TRX is equipped from the factory with a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® HELLCAT V8 engine, delivering a jaw-dropping 702 horsepower. However, Champlin’s quest for even more power led him to push this impressive pickup to its limits.

The Turbo Transformation –

Champlin, known for his fearless approach to automotive modifications, partnered with Hellion Turbo in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Together, they retrofitted his Ram TRX with twin turbos while retaining the original supercharger. This bold upgrade catapulted the truck’s output to an astonishing 900 horsepower. However, after some spirited driving, engine troubles surfaced, leading to a few dropped cylinders.

Undeterred, Champlin decided to further enhance his build by replacing the damaged components with a new HEMI® Demon V8 long-block from the Direct Connection catalog. This strategic upgrade set the stage for a more robust performance and a fresh start for his modified TRX.

Dyno Day: Unleashing Unprecedented Power –

After installing the Demon long-block, the team took the TRX to the dyno to measure its newfound power. The results were extraordinary: the truck produced a staggering 926 horsepower and 887 lb-ft of torque at the rear tires. Factoring in a 15% driveline loss translates to an impressive 1,090 horsepower and 1,044 lb-ft of torque at the engine.

Front Driveshaft Reinstallation: Ensuring Peak Performance –

With the dyno session complete, Champlin shifted his focus to the front driveshaft—a crucial component removed during the turbo installation. Reinstalling the driveshaft was essential for restoring the TRX’s full all-wheel drive (AWD) functionality.

The Ultimate Burnout Challenge –

With everything back in place, Champlin was ready to showcase the capabilities of his newly modified Ram 1500 TRX. In an exhilarating segment of his video, he attached the truck to a skid steer for a thrilling 360-degree AWD burnout. Combining the twin-turbo and supercharged HEMI® V8 created an electrifying smoke show.
