One of the most high-anticipated features for the 2020 Ram 1500 has to be the new third-generation 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. While some are on the fence about the EcoDiesel, due to issues many owners have had with the previous generations of the small diesel, it has left a lot of Ram Truck enthusiasts having mixed expectations that the new generation can improve on the faults of the previous motors.
Now, back in August, Ram Trucks invited me to the press launch of its new 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel lineup in beautiful Duluth, Minnesota where I had to get some time behind the wheel of all the 2020 Ram 1500 trim levels (except the Big Horn) and get a taste of what the new EcoDiesel was like. While the press can give you their first drive opinions, you really don’t get much time with a vehicle at a media launch. You truly spend more time jump from vehicle to vehicle, setting up camera gear, to really get an in-depth feel of the vehicle.
So we reached out to Ram and asked them to send us one of their new EcoDiesel offerings, so we could spend some true time behind the wheel of the new EcoDiesel and get a true feel for the updated powertrain. Ram didn’t disappoint us either by sending us a brand new 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel Black EcoDiesel Crew Cab 4×4. Being a media review vehicle, it comes fully loaded and its no surprise that this truck has a sticker price of $71,000 USD. That’s right, a Rebel that is the price of a HEMI-powered Limited truck.
So over the next week, we will be driving the new EcoDiesel in this off-road-oriented Rebel package and seeing how daily life is with Ram’s latest half-ton diesel option. We will be putting the truck on our 100-mile MPG loop which consists of both highways and stop & go city traffic around the Metro Detroit area, to see some real-world official numbers. So stay tuned…
