Law enforcement agencies across the United States have long relied on the sheer power and performance of the Dodge Charger Pursuit, equipped with a 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 engine, to combat criminals during high-speed pursuits. For nearly two decades, the Charger Pursuit has been the ultimate weapon of choice for apprehending criminals on the run. A recently posted video on YouTube from April 25, 2021, shows just how tough the Charger Pursuit is when Georgia State Patrol used one of them to execute a stunning Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver on a medium-duty crew cab Isuzu NPR box truck, bringing a dramatic end to a tense police chase.
According to the text posted with the video, Troop B of the Georgia State Patrol contacted Troop C Communications regarding a stolen Isuzu NPR landscape truck that was tracked to the metro area. Troopers swiftly located the vehicle traveling southbound on I-75/85 near Fulton Street. Emergency equipment was activated to stop the fleeing vehicle, but the driver had no intentions of surrendering peacefully, igniting a high-stakes pursuit.
As the pursuit unfolded, the driver behaved aggressively, weaving recklessly between lanes and nearly colliding with several vehicles. The chase continued southbound on I-75/85, eventually transitioning to I-75. With the dangerous situation escalating and public safety in jeopardy, the decision was made to employ the highly effective PIT maneuver.

The PIT maneuver was precisely executed, a staple in the law enforcement playbook for stopping fleeing vehicles. Around the area of Central Avenue on I-75, the Georgia State Patrol’s Charger made its move. The Charger came alongside the Isuzu truck, making contact with the rear bumper in a controlled fashion. As a result, the fleeing vehicle rotated clockwise, losing control and veering off the roadway.
The Isuzu NPR truck flipped and ultimately struck the shoulder barrier wall, stopping after the stunning maneuver. Despite the impact and the shattered front windshield, law enforcement officers swiftly approached the overturned vehicle, apprehending the driver, without further incident. Following the arrest, the driver was transported to Grady Hospital for a medical evaluation before being cleared for transport to jail.
With the next generation of the Dodge Charger on the horizon, anticipation is building to see how the new electrified models will fare in law enforcement applications. Agencies will face a decision: adopt the cutting-edge electrified models or stick with the tried-and-true internal combustion engines (ICEs).
