A recent police chase video involving a stolen White Knuckle Dodge Durango R/T (WD) racing down the streets of Detroit from June 9th, 2021, hit the web earlier this week. The video shows the HEMI®-powered three-row SUV reaching over 120 mph down public streets.
According to records, Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers were on patrol on I-96 (Local Lanes and Evergreen Rd) in Detroit when they saw the Dodge Durango R/T traveling quickly without its lights on. Troopers ran the plate of the Durango, and when the computer returned that the vehicle was stolen from the Detroit suburb of Troy, troopers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle. The driver fled, reaching speeds of over 120 mph.
The troopers pursued the Durango off the highway near the Wyoming Avenue exit, almost colliding with another vehicle exiting the highway and entering the service drive. The Durango then took to the side streets, traveling down residential streets at 75 mph. Luckily, there didn’t seem to be many people out at 2:30 a.m.
MSP then chased the Durango onto Grand River Blvd, where the suspect drove the Durango towards downtown Detroit at speeds of around 95 mph. After several minutes, the driver missed a turn, which allowed MSP to get right behind him, as the Durango turned at Grand River and Avery. MSP took the opportunity to do a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver on the Durango, pushing it sideways on the small residential street.
At that point, both the driver and passenger took off on foot. Troopers attempted to use their tasers to stop the driver but were unsuccessful. After a short foot pursuit, the driver was taken into custody.
MSP would later call a K9 unit to the scene and began tracking the passenger. The K9 was able to locate the passenger successfully, and he was also taken into custody.
The stolen vehicle was searched, and a stolen handgun was located. Both suspects were taken to the Detroit Detention Center pending prosecutor review.
