WATCH: Jeep® Wrangler Rubicon 392 Has Close Call In Moab

This HEMI-Powered Jeep Came Close To Going Over On The Trail...

Off-roading is an exhilarating experience that requires much more than just having the right vehicle. While many assume that a well-equipped and hardcore rig is enough to tackle challenging terrains, the truth is far from it. Conquering difficult obstacles like the Pritchett Canyon in Moab requires skills and experience behind the wheel.

Pritchett Canyon is a 20.3-mile trail that is rated as extremely difficult. Even well-equipped vehicles may not get through without winching or being strapped. Rollovers and broken axles are common occurrences, especially for overly aggressive drivers. The two most challenging obstacles on the trail are Rocker Knocker and Axle Hill. Once the most difficult obstacle, the Rock Pile is no longer used, and everyone goes right up a not-so-easy bypass. It is recommended that those who take up the challenge of tackling this trail have a minimum tire size of 33 inches and front and rear lockers with very low gearing.

A recent online video shows a new 2023 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 392 (JL) almost rolling while attempting the challenging terrain during this year’s Easter Jeep Safari (EJS). This incident exemplifies how having a proper off-roader may not always lead to a successful maneuver.

According to the owner, this Rubicon 392 only had 4,500 miles on the odometer. Additionally, the video states that it was fitted with 74Weld Portal axles and 40-inch tires.

The driver of the Rubicon 392 attempted some rugged rock crawling on an approximately 30-foot tall and incredibly steep hill. During the initial attempts, the driver gently pushed the pedal until he decided to punch the throttle down on the 392 HEMI.

This is where things took a turn for the worse. The Wrangler briefly jumped with all four wheels off the ground, and the driver quickly realized their mistake. As a result, the off-roader became stuck with two of its wheels in the air. The driver reversed, and the vehicle eventually landed safely on its four wheels. Fortunately, the Jeep Wrangler suffered no damage despite coming incredibly close to disaster.

The starting price for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 392 is $84,290, including destination fees. While having a proper off-roader is essential for such adventures, it is equally vital to have the skills and experience to navigate challenging terrains successfully.
