WATCH: Driving The Ram TRX On The Famed Nürburgring Nordschleife!
Tackle The "Green Hell" With A 702 Horsepower Pickup...
Designed bolt by bolt to significantly outperform every other truck, the Ram 1500 TRX has been tested to handle the most punishing conditions with extreme durability. Although RAM claims that TRX produces more capability on the street or in the desert than the standard Ram 1500, we know that the truck was designed as an off-road performance desert runner. But it hasn’t stopped owners from taking their TRXs to the drag strip or even to closed road courses.
One British YouTuber (BTGDale) got his chance to take the 6,350 lb. Ram 1500 TRX for a lap of the famed Nürburgring in Germany. For those who are not familiar with the Nürburgring Nordschleife, it is the Northern loop of Germany’s most famous public accessible road course. The Nordschleife covers 12.9 miles (20.8 kilometers), has 73 turns (40 right, 33 left), a maximum grade of 17%, and nearly 1,000 feet of elevation change (lowest 1,040 feet above sea level, highest 2,021 feet above sea level).
Powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI HELLCAT V8 engine, making 702 horsepower (523 kW) and 650 lb.-ft. (882 Nm) of torque, the Ram TRX is currently the quickest, fastest, and most powerful mass-produced half-ton pickup truck in the world. With a top speed limited to 118 mph, the Ram TRX is fitted with specially designed 35-inch Wrangler Territory All-Terrain tires from Goodyear and integrated fender flares that add 8 inches of body width to the already huge pickup.
On the Nordschleife, the TRX overshadows most vehicles that are out on the track with it. The massive supercharged Ram 1500 has no problem overtaking vehicles and hitting its 118 mph speed limiter on the straightway. The HEMI HELLCAT engine doesn’t ever seem to have a problem keeping cool under the fast pace conditions.
The biggest downfall of the TRX on the Nordschleife has to be its brakes. The TRX’s 2-piston outboard venting front brakes didn’t take long to become severely hot on the course causing them to begin experiencing brake fade. But it didn’t stop BTGDale from having fun (even with two wheels in the grass) from passing cars with the massive TRX.
The over 17-minute long is amazing to watch, but there is some NSFW language throughout the video.
