Popular YouTube channel o3djeeps, was out in Moab a few weeks ago when they came across a group of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) engineers testing several Jeep Wrangler (JL) models and one black 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel prototype. They happened to get some amazing video of the Rebel tackling Moab with what sounds like a 3.0-liter ECODIESEL V6.
We know FCA has been testing the all-new Ram 1500 with the revised 3.0-liter ECODIESEL V-6 around Metro Detroit and is slated to bring the engine to the Ram 1500 (DT) some time in the next year. However, this is the first time there is video proof that Ram is working on a diesel version of the 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel.
We do know that during the launch of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler (JL), former Head of Jeep and Ram, now FCA CEO Mike Manley released estimated power numbers for the 2019 Jeep Wrangler (JL) ECODIESEL. Those numbers for ECODIESEL were 260 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft of torque. Of course, that is backed with an 8-speed automatic transmission. So we bet the ZF 8-speed automatic is underneath this Ram 1500 Rebel diesel prototype.
In the video, FCA engineers look to be running the ECODIESEL Rebel through its paces in Moab as this truck has scrapes, bumps, and scuffs that would give most Ram owners nightmares.
With vehicles like the upcoming HELLCAT-powered Ram 1500 Rebel TRX, the heavily-updated Ram 2500 Power Wagon and now a diesel-powered Ram 1500 Rebel, the Ram brand doesn’t look to be backing down from being the leader in the off-road truck market.
