Ultra-Rare 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Convertible Set For Mecum

440 Six-Barrel B5 Blue Convertible Set to Turn Heads at Mecum Tulsa

There are rare muscle cars… and then there’s this. Headed to Mecum Tulsa on Saturday, June 7th, 2025, this 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Convertible, painted in jaw-dropping Bright Blue Metallic (B5), is one of the most exclusive Mopars ever built. Just 20 of these V-Code 440 cubic-inch Six-Barrel drop-tops left the factory with a 4-speed manual transmission, and this one’s been documented in the Chrysler Registry as the real deal.

Under the hood, you’ve got a 7.2-liter (440 cubic-inch) V8 of pure American fury—390 horsepower and a massive 490 lb-ft of torque fed through three Holley two-barrel carburetors. That power is laid down through a 4-speed gearbox topped with a legendary Hurst Pistol Grip shifter. It’s as old-school and visceral as muscle cars get.

Back in 1970, Plymouth refreshed the Road Runner with a redesigned grille and tail panel, added rear quarter scoops, and introduced wild “High Impact” paint options, such as this B5 Blue. It was also the last year you could get a Road Runner convertible, with just 834 total drop-tops built. Only 34 of those came with the brutal V-Code 440 Six-BBL V8, and fewer still—just 20—were ordered with a manual transmission.

Loaded with muscle-era must-haves like an Air Grabber hood, power steering and brakes, bucket seats and console, and Rallye wheels wrapped in classic Goodyear Polyglas rubber, this car checks all the right boxes. Inside, it’s got the Tic-Toc-Tach, gauges, and even the Solid State AM radio still intact. A power convertible top makes it just as fun at a cruise night as it is at a car show.

This example isn’t just rare—it’s award-worthy. Bob Ashton, Managing Member of the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN), himself handpicked it at Chrysler Carlisle Nationals, a true sign of Mopar excellence.

With 62,398 miles showing and loaded with factory options and history, this Road Runner is more than just a pretty face—it’s a tire-smoking, pavement-pounding piece of muscle car history.

Estimated to fetch between $140,000 and $160,000, it’s a once-in-a-generation opportunity to own one of the most desirable Road Runners ever made.
