Ultra-Low-Mileage 1985 Dodge Charger Surfaces On BringATrailer

Just Over 5,000 Miles On This Time-Capsule L-Body Hatchback

If you’re a fan of 1980s Mopar iron, here’s a rare treat—an exceptionally preserved 1985 Dodge Charger showing just over 5,000 miles, now listed for auction on BringATrailer.com. This silver L-body hatchback has remained with a single owner for nearly four decades before being acquired by the selling dealer in 2025. Bidding for this ultra-clean survivor ends Monday, November 3, at 1:55 p.m.

Finished in silver with contrasting black side moldings, this Charger perfectly captures the no-nonsense look of mid-’80s Dodge design. Up front, quad headlights and a simple black grille set the tone, while a rear spoiler, fender-mounted antenna, and subtle stone guards complete the period-correct appearance. The car rides on 13-inch steel wheels with trim rings, still wearing its original-style 165/80 Goodyear Vector tires—further proof of its low-mileage status.

Inside, the Charger’s gray vinyl and cloth interior looks nearly untouched. The bucket seats, folding rear bench, and clean dashboard all reflect how carefully this car has been preserved. Features are basic but authentic to the time: crank windows, a heater, rear defroster, floor-mounted shifter, and an AM/FM stereo. The four-spoke steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer, tachometer, and full set of auxiliary gauges. The mechanical odometer displays just 5,246 miles—likely accurate given the car’s overall condition.

Under the hood sits Chrysler’s dependable 2.2-liter inline-four engine paired with a three-speed automatic transaxle. While not a performance monster by today’s standards, the 2.2 was known for solid reliability and decent economy during the Reagan-era fuel-conscious years. It produced 96 horsepower and 199 lb.-ft. of torque. Power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drums handle the stopping duties.

According to the seller, this Charger was Ziebart undercoated when new in 1985, though some of that original coating has begun to flake away—unsurprising for a car that’s been sitting for much of its life. A Carfax report isn’t available, as the car’s limited registration history predates modern reporting systems.

The 1981–1987 Dodge Charger remains a nostalgic piece of Mopar history—a front-wheel-drive hatchback built for affordable fun before the brand returned to its muscle roots. With its original finishes and barely any miles, this particular example represents a rare opportunity for collectors seeking a true survivor from Dodge’s often-overlooked ’80s lineup.
