Dodge is preparing to make a significant leap into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the upcoming 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Banshee. As the anticipated halo model for the Dodge brand, this all-electric muscle car is expected to set new standards in performance and innovation. While Dodge continues to be tight-lipped about the SRT Banshee, many questions remain about the upcoming halo car for Dodge.
The Competition: Tesla Model S Plaid –
To truly understand the stakes, one must consider the current benchmark in electric performance: the Tesla Model S Plaid. This sports sedan boasts a tri-motor setup with all-wheel drive (AWD), producing a staggering 1,020 horsepower and 1,050 lb.-ft. of torque. According to MotorTrend, the Model S Plaid accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.07 seconds (1.98 seconds on a prepped drag strip) and covers the quarter-mile in 9.31 seconds at 152.2 mph, with a top speed of 200 mph.
Dodge must surpass these impressive performance metrics to establish the Charger Daytona SRT Banshee as a true leader in the electric muscle car market.
The Tri-Motor Advantage –
Rumors suggest that the Charger Daytona SRT Banshee will feature a tri-motor setup, similar to the Tesla Model S Plaid. This speculation is fueled by Stellantis’ existing tri-motor system in the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore. The GranTurismo Folgore uses an 800-volt tri-motor setup with three electric drive modules (EDMs), delivering a combined output of 761 horsepower and 995 lb.-ft. of torque.
Stellantis, Dodge’s parent company, has already developed a range of new EDMs that combine motor, transmission, and inverter. The largest of these, EDM #3, is designed to produce between 201 and 442 horsepower. Given that the Charger Daytona SRT Banshee will be based on the STLA Large architecture, it is plausible that Dodge will utilize these advanced EDMs in its tri-motor configuration, which could mean one motor for the front axle and two motors for the rear axle.
Potential Power Numbers –
If Dodge equips the Charger Daytona SRT Banshee with a tri-motor setup and the advanced Direct Connection eStage 2 for the 800-volt Banshee system, the vehicle could produce up to 1,336 horsepower. Even aiming for 1,072 horsepower would place the Charger Daytona ahead of the Model S Plaid, offering Dodge ample room to enhance performance in future models further.
Initial Model Offering –
Sources close to MoparInsiders.com indicate that the 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Banshee will initially be available only as a two-door model. This decision may disappoint some fans of the outgoing four-door Charger SRT HELLCAT, but it aligns with Dodge’s strategy of gradually rolling out new models. It took two years after the engine’s debut in the Challenger for the Dodge Charger SRT HELLCAT Redeye to be introduced. Therefore, a four-door variant of the Charger Daytona SRT Banshee might be on the horizon for 2026.
By aiming to surpass the performance benchmarks set by the Tesla Model S Plaid, Dodge has the opportunity to redefine what it means to be a muscle car in the electric era. With its potential tri-motor setup and advanced technology, the Charger Daytona SRT Banshee could set new standards in American performance. If it were our bet, we believe that Dodge has the 1.66-second 0 to 60 mph time of the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 in their sights to help sway naysayers about their move to EV performance.
