Three Kids In Custody After Trying To Steal Hellcats From Jefferson Assembly Plant!
Three Kids Under 15 Years Of Age Busted By Detroit Police...
Detroit Police told Fox 2 Detroit on Monday, that it had arrested three minors, aged 11, 12, and 14, inside the Stellantis Detroit Assembly Complex – Jefferson (DACJ) plant lot, trying to steal several new Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcat models on a holding lot.
The facility located on Detroit’s east side has been plagued over the years with its holding lots, involving various Hellcat models and Ram 1500 pickup trucks.
Head of the Detroit Police Commercial Auto Theft Unit, Lt. Clive Stewart told Fox 2 Detroit he has never seen anything like it. “They think it’s fun and there is no penalty to it,” Stewart said. “Doing this as long as I’ve been doing this, 11 is the youngest.”
“To me in my mind, I would think somebody a little older got these kids out here and are putting in orders,” Stewart said. “The older offenders know, ‘I can do this and not really have my hands on it because I didn’t really steal the car.”
This isn’t the only time teenager have been arrested after trying to steal vehicles on the DACJ property.
In October 2018, two juveniles aged 14 and 15 at the time, were caught trying to steal more vehicles from the same lot. Both teenagers were charged as juveniles with seven counts of larceny over $20,000, one count of resisting arrest, and malicious destruction of property.
