This Hennessey TRX-Based Mammoth 1000 Has A Top Speed Of 55 MPH!

Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) created a monster with their limited edition Mammoth 1000 package for the 2021 and 2022 Ram 1500 TRX. The Mammoth 1000 package features the HPE1000 performance upgrade package, which has already seen its way under the hood of several Dodge Charger and Challenger HPE builds. 

The HPE performance upgrade includes an upgraded supercharger, pulley upgrades, stainless-steel headers, high-flow exhaust, and HPE tuning. The package should be good to push the TRX’s Hellcat engine to 1,012 horsepower and 969 lb.-ft. of torque. That is an improvement of 310 horsepower and 319 ft.-lb. of torque over the stock output. 

When it customer clientele, HPE gets a lot of business overseas. One of those Mammoth 1000 pickups recently showed up on the Finnish automotive classified site, NettiAuto.com. Listed for €249,900 (or about $274,700 USD), the performance off-roader is almost twice as expensive as what it cost to purchase a Mammoth 1000 from HPE directly. The Mammoth 1000 has a U.S. price of $135,350 (excluding delivery).

But it’s not the price tag that is so shocking about this truck. What if I were to tell you that this 1,012 horsepower performance pickup has been limited to a top speed of just 55 mph (90 km/h)! In its stock TRX form, the TRX is limited to 118 mph (190 km/h) when it leaves the assembly line floor.

But why 55 mph (90 km/h)?

The reason behind the decision was to get away without paying hefty taxes. The Mammoth 1000 (and the TRX it is based on), are subjected to a 44.8% import tax due to CO2 emissions. But thanks to its gross weight of 7,800 lbs. (3,539 kg), the Mammoth 1000 just squeaks past the limit of what can be considered a commercial vehicle in Finland. 

Because Finland is part of the European Union (E.U.), the Mammoth 1000 gains “N2” commercial status. The means in order to follow N2 regulations, a speed limiter must be installed on the vehicle for it to be considered usable on public roadways. So the Mammoth 1000 is limited to the top speed of 55 mph (90 km/h), which is slightly less than the 57.7 mph (93 km/h) that the classified list the top speed as.

According to HPE, the Mammoth 1000 can do a 0 to 60 mph (0 to 96.5 km/h) run in just 3.2 seconds. Unfortunately, that means the truck will never reach that milestone on the road.

The ad states that the particular truck will be available in April, and is one of the limited edition TRX Ignition Edition models built this year (not the yellow one shown). It also features the optional Mammoth Off-Road Stage 2 Kit, which includes the following…
