Ram Will Finally Get Rid Of The Aging 68RFE From Its Lineup...

In a pivotal move for the Ram Truck brand, the upcoming 2025 Ram Heavy Duty and Chassis Cab lineup is poised to adopt the cutting-edge ZF Powerline® 8-speed automatic transmission across all models. This transformative decision comes after much speculation and is backed by reliable sources close to MoparInsiders.com and HDRams.com. It sheds light on the long-awaited replacement for the controversial Chrysler 68RFE 6-speed automatic transmission.

A Transmission Engineered for Excellence: ZF Powerline® 8AT –

The PowerLine 8AT by ZF is not your average transmission; it’s a robust 8-speed automatic designed specifically for heavy-duty commercial vehicles, boasting a remarkable capacity of up to 57,000 lbs. This transmission is tailor-made for diverse applications such as distribution trucks, beverage trucks, rental and leasing fleets, refuse vehicles, construction machinery, utility trucks, school buses, and heavy-duty pickup trucks.

In a collaborative effort between ZF, Cummins, and Ram engineers, the PowerLine has been meticulously developed and rigorously tested. One standout feature is its ability to handle up to 1,000 lb.-ft. of engine torque, making it a powerhouse for demanding tasks. Additionally, the transmission can channel nearly 500 lb.-ft. of torque to an engine-driven dual-side Power Take-Off (PTO) interface, providing enhanced versatility for various applications.

It features a single central electric connector with programmed adaptive shifting and comfort strategies and automatic skip shifting for a remarkable 30% boost in acceleration. The dual damper lock-up converter, transmission-mounted oil cooler, and a substantial reduction in weight compared to traditional 6-speed transmissions contribute to a 10% increase in fuel efficiency while elevating the driveline capacity.

The news that the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty and Chassis Cab models will adopt the ZF Powerline® 8-speed automatic transmission comes as a welcome relief for enthusiasts and critics alike, who have questioned the continued use of the aging 68RFE in the current lineup. Recent insights from the United Auto Workers (UAW) negotiations confirmed Stellantis’ commitment to phasing out the 6-speed automatic, leaving many wondering about its successor. The decision to embrace the PowerLine 8AT addresses these concerns and positions Ram as a trailblazer in delivering top-notch performance and efficiency.

As we eagerly await the unveiling of the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty and Chassis Cab models, the integration of the ZF Powerline® 8-speed automatic transmission is a testament to Ram’s dedication to innovation and customer satisfaction.

So I don't understand something here, are all the Ram trucks getting this transmission? because if that's the case are they doing away with the H.O Cummins?

I would suspect it’s beefed to take over 1300lb-ft. Better be able to take 1400 because this 1075 is for the birds
