This particular Superbird replica, derived from a 1970 Plymouth Sport Satellite, is set to cross the auction block at the Mecum Florida Summer Special 2024 event on Friday, July 12th. Originally born as a higher-trimmed Satellite, this car now embodies the distinctive features that define a Superbird: the iconic rear wing, nose cone, and fender scoops crafted from Janek fiberglass, along with stainless wind deflectors and a sleek black vinyl top.

Under its hood lies a recently rebuilt 7.2-liter (440 cubic-inch) Super Commando 4-BBL V8 engine, delivering a robust 375 horsepower through an automatic transmission. The 440 4-BBL was the standard engine in the actual Superbird, while the legendary 7.0-liter (426 cubic-inch) HEMI® V8 was optional. The car was originally equipped with a 6.3-liter (383 cubic-inch) 2-BBL V8 when it left the factory.

The car retains its classic styling cues, including 5-spoke styled road wheels wrapped in Indy Firehawk tires, complemented by a tasteful Saddle Tan interior featuring bucket seats and a column-mounted shifter.

Produced at the renowned Lynch Road Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan—the very birthplace of the Superbird—this replica pays homage to its legendary predecessor. While not an original, its meticulous construction and attention to detail offer enthusiasts a chance to experience the thrill of owning a Superbird without the exorbitant price tag often associated with genuine models.
