Authorities in Geauga County, Ohio are trying to identify a team of thieves who stole three high-performance Mopar vehicles from inside the Junction Auto Family dealership on Mayfield Road (U.S. Route 322) in Munson Township.
According to reports, a passerby saw people gathered in the dealer parking lot around 2:15 a.m. and contacted the authorities. Officers arrived at the scene about four minutes later.
The three stolen vehicles were identified as a White Knuckle 2022 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack, a Granite Crystal 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT HELLCAT, and a Diamond Black 2020 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. A fourth vehicle was found running at the scene, and investigators believe it was used to push or pull one of the stolen vehicles through the showroom door.
Local agencies caught up to the stolen vehicles, however, authorities say they were exceeding well over 100 mph, down two-lane roads. So the chase was called off.
“I don’t know if I’d call what we did as a pursuit,” Chester Police Chief Craig Young said. “There wasn’t a whole lot of time for us to take action, so our officers terminated it when it was obvious we weren’t going to catch them.”
Video footage of the heist from inside the dealer was given to police to analyze. Authorities say they plan to prosecute the thieves on a variety of charges including grand theft auto, burglary, and vandalism.
The theft comes as modern HEMI vehicles continue to be hot targets for thefts across the nation. So if you do have a HEMI performance-oriented Mopar, do what you can to protect it from theft.
