The New Jeep® Compass (J4U) Has Lots Of Easter Eggs

GabetzSPYUnit Catches The New Compass In Torino

The all-new Jeep® Compass (J4U) marks a bold evolution for one of the brand’s most popular SUVs. Built on Stellantis’ flexible STLA Medium platform, this next-generation Compass introduces a more rugged design, smarter aerodynamics, and new electrified powertrains.

Recently, automotive photographer Walter Vayr (@GabetzSPYUnit) caught the new Compass First Edition finished in a vibrant new exterior color called Hawaii at the 2025 Salone Auto Torino in Italy. This bright, tropical-inspired shade gives the SUV a distinctive and modern flair—perfectly fitting Jeep’s mix of adventure and sophistication.

A More Aerodynamic Yet Rugged Compass –

At first glance, the Compass J4U embraces its Jeep heritage with squared-off styling and confident proportions. But look closer, and it becomes clear that Jeep’s engineers have taken aerodynamics seriously. With a drag coefficient below 0.29, it’s the most aerodynamic Jeep ever built—about 10% more efficient than its predecessor.

This was achieved through a series of subtle but effective design enhancements: a flat underbody that smooths airflow underneath the vehicle, active grille shutters that close at cruising speeds to reduce drag, and aero-tuned wheels that maintain a rugged look while improving efficiency. Out back, a roof spoiler, sharp edges, and air curtains around the rear wheel arches help the Compass slice through the air with surprising ease.

The result isn’t just for looks—these aerodynamic improvements directly benefit range and fuel economy while making the SUV quieter and more stable on highways.

STLA Medium: The Backbone Of Jeep’s Future –

Underpinning the new Compass is Stellantis’ STLA Medium architecture, which is designed to handle multiple powertrains across global markets. In Europe, Jeep launched the Compass as a battery electric vehicle (BEV) producing 213 horsepower with front-wheel drive and a range of up to 650 kilometers (404 miles).

However, sources close to MoparInsiders report that the North American model will chart a slightly different course. Instead of launching as an EV, the Compass built in Belvidere will debut with a hybrid powertrain, with a gasoline-powered version expected to follow later. This pivot reflects Jeep’s strategic focus on giving U.S. and Canadian customers powertrain flexibility before a full transition to electric models later this decade.

First Edition: Premium Design And Technology –

The First Edition trim, based on Jeep’s upscale Summit Reserve specification, blends premium craftsmanship with advanced technology. Exterior highlights include Matrix LED headlights, 20-inch alloy wheels, and subtle First Edition badging that signals exclusivity.

Inside, the Compass takes a big leap forward in design and usability. It features a massive 16-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment touchscreen, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™ as standard. The system supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, keeping the software fresh without dealership visits.

A luxury package adds ventilated and massage front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and semi-automatic lane change assist, moving the compact Compass into near-premium territory.

Hidden Easter Eggs: Jeep’s Signature Touch –

Walter’s up-close photos reveal plenty of Jeep’s trademark Easter eggs—small, hidden design details that celebrate the brand’s heritage. The seven-slot grille motif can be found in the taillights, on the wheels, and even molded into the lower fascia. The new “X”-shaped taillights, inspired by WWII-era jerry cans, are mirrored in the dashboard’s rubber mat design.

Inside, the “Jeep®” logo glows softly on the side of the passenger side of the dash, while the driver’s side proudly displays “Since 1941.” And instead of the traditional Willys climbing a hill on the windshield, the new Compass features an illustration of a Jeep Compass camping in the woods with a rooftop tent—a fitting symbol of modern Jeep adventure.

Pricing And Launch Details –

In Italy, the Compass First Edition e-Hybrid starts at €41,900, equivalent to roughly $45,000 USD, with a limited-time introductory price of €39,900 (about $42,900 USD). The fully electric BEV version will sit higher in the lineup, offering greater range and power for European buyers.

In North America, Compass production at Belvidere Assembly is scheduled to begin in late 2027, marking a major milestone in Stellantis’ $13 billion U.S. manufacturing investment plan. That investment will also fund two new Jeep vehicles and additional EV programs across the Midwest.

Whether electric, hybrid, or gas-powered, the next-generation Compass is poised to redefine what a compact Jeep can be.
