How Much Do You Think They Are Asking For This 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon?

Would You Pay $499,999 For This Demon?

With the ongoing semiconductor shortage plaguing the automotive industry, we have seen a number of extremely high “market-adjusted” prices at various dealerships across the country. While most of these market-adjusted prices are focused on new vehicles, the used market is also being hit with extreme markups. But one pre-owned vehicle is getting a lot of attention on the interwebs because of this.

Marino Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in Chicago, Illinois may be topped the list with markups with their listing of a pre-owned 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. Marino is asking for an outstanding $499,999 USD for a pre-owned B5 Blue-colored Demon with 4 miles on the odometer.

Originally sold in June 2018, the Demon was titled as a commercial vehicle by the same dealer it’s currently being sold at in July 2018. At that time the car had a Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $91,570 including the $1,345 for destination charges and $1,700 gas-guzzler tax. A far cry from the half a million-dollar asking price today.

Now we have seen a number of Demons with new titles at a dealership in California, going for around $200,000 in June of last year.

In our opinion, we would opt for a 2021 or 2022 Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock that can be found on the new or used market. Those cars have been going for around $10,000 to $25,000 over sticker price. The Challenger SRT Super Stock continues the legacy of the limited edition 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon by offering a package very close to the Demons (sans the 840 horsepower high-octane mode, Transbrake, and SRT “Drag Mode” setting in the Uconnect system).

The SRT Super Stock is powered by the same supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® high-output V-8 engine as the Demon and its Redeye brethren and delivering 807 horsepower and 707 lb.-ft. of torque on pump gas. Did you catch that? 807 horsepower on pump gas! If that sounds familiar, that’s because the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was rated at 808 horsepower and 717 lb.-ft. of torque on Premium 91 octane gasoline. It’s a clever way to keep the Demon owners feeling special.

However, Mopar and Dodge will be offering performance upgrade kits for the Challenger SRT Super Stock through its new Direct Connect program. The new kits for the SRT Super Stock will include a tune for high-octane fuel and will have 840 & 885 horsepower settings, meeting and beating that of the Demon. Both kits will be available in March, and a third kit is under development for even more horsepower. Equipping your SRT Super Stock will set you back only a couple to a few grand and ultimately be a lot cheaper than buying that B5 Blue Demon above.

This Demon does come with the optional $1 performance Demon crate, guaranteeing the owner a true 840 horsepower rating with high-octane fuel.

Now, mind you, that the very last Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and the last production 2017 Dodge Viper were bundled together for auction at Barrett-Jackson, took in $1 million when it crossed the auction block. The auction benefited the United Way back in June 2018. Currently, a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon with 6 miles on the odometer is on the popular auction site bring a trailer, and as of the writing of this article is going for $150,000.

We have talked to several dealers throughout the Metro Detroit area, who are charging MSRP or just slightly over MSRP on their new and pre-owned inventories. Those dealers are looking to maintain a good relationship with their customer base and hope that they will return once again after the semiconductor shortage is over and full capacity is available for the production of all products.
