Stellantis (FCA Canada) Releases Its Sales Figures For Q2 2023

Sales Increase 3% Over The Same Time Last Year...

At the close of the second quarter of 2023, Stellantis (FCA Canada) announced a 3% sales increase compared to the same period last year. The company’s strong performance can be attributed to the Dodge, Ram, and Alfa Romeo brands, which have been recognized for their excellence in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. FCA Canada also boasts three vehicles among the country’s top-10 best-selling Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs).

Overall, FCA Canada recorded sales of 48,368 vehicles for the second quarter, surpassing the previous year’s total of 47,184.

Dodge, Ram, and Alfa Romeo have significantly driven FCA Canada’s sales growth. Jason Stoicevich, the president of FCA Canada, expressed optimism about the positive sales trends at the halfway point of 2023, attributing them to the brands’ strong presence in the market. Additionally, upcoming introductions of PHEV versions of the Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale and the recently updated 2024 Jeep® Wrangler 4xe are expected to reinforce FCA Canada’s PHEV position further.

The Jeep brand has witnessed remarkable success during the second quarter. The Wagoneer by Jeep experienced an impressive 61% increase in sales compared to the same period last year. The Jeep Compass, featuring a new standard 2.0-liter engine, also saw a substantial % sales increase of 41%. The PHEV 4xe version of the Jeep Wrangler, known for its uncompromised capability and an all-electric range of 35 kilometers, accounted for approximately 20% of the model’s quarterly sales. Jeep recently showcased its upcoming automated off-road driving technology in electrified Grand Cherokee 4xe models, aiming to enhance the experiences of off-roaders and newcomers alike.

Chrysler brand sales witnessed an 11% increase during the second quarter, driven by the popularity of Chrysler minivans manufactured in Windsor, Ontario. The Chrysler Pacifica minivans recorded a total of 3,211 sales, with the class-exclusive PHEV model offering an all-electric range of over 50 kilometers, representing 24% of the sales.

The Ram brand had a strong second quarter, leading to an 8% growth in sales compared to the same period last year. Light-duty sales of Ram pickups increased from 19,426 to 21,544. The highlight of the quarter was the world debut of the all-new, all-electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV at the New York Auto Show. The Ram 1500 REV is the first battery-electric light-duty pickup truck from Ram Truck and boasts an unsurpassed targeted range of over 800 kilometers.

The Dodge brand saw remarkable sales growth in the second quarter, with both the Challenger and Durango models recording an increase of 23% and 40%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2022. The popular August enthusiast event, MotorTrend Presents Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge, announced its move to downtown Pontiac, Michigan, expanding the festival’s footprint.

The Alfa Romeo brand experienced mixed results during the second quarter of 2023. The Giulia, a popular model known for its sporty performance, recorded 63 units sold, marking a 21% increase compared to the same period last year. Similarly, the Alfa Stelvio, an SUV offering luxury and performance, saw 118 units sold, though it experienced a 45% decline in sales. The introduction of the Alfa Tonale, a new model, garnered 24 units sold, showcasing the brand’s commitment to expanding its product lineup. Additionally, the Alfa Tonale PHEV, recorded 2 units sold. Overall, the Alfa Romeo brand sold a total of 181 units, reflecting a 32% decrease compared to the second quarter of the previous year.

The Fiat brand faced some challenges during the second quarter of 2023. The Fiat 500 and 500X models reported lower sales, with the 500 not recording any units sold during this period. The Fiat 500X experienced a decline of 61% in sales, with only 7 units sold. The Fiat Spider, also saw a significant decline of 100% in sales, with no units sold during the quarter. Overall, the Fiat brand sold a total of 7 units, marking a 63% decrease compared to the same period last year.

Despite the challenges faced by the Fiat brand, Alfa Romeo demonstrated some positive sales growth with the Giulia. However, both brands will need to strategize and make necessary adjustments to improve sales performance in the coming quarters.

Several models stood out as top performers for the first six months of 2023. The Ram ProMaster and light-duty trucks witnessed a substantial sales increase of 46% and 11%, respectively. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L experienced a notable growth of 48%, while the Wagoneer’s sales surged by 52%. The Dodge Durango also performed admirably, with a sales increase of 42%. Notably, the Canada-made Dodge Challenger and Chrysler Pacifica witnessed sales growth, with the class-exclusive PHEV model accounting for 27% of minivan sales.

FCA Canada’s commercial fleet channel observed a remarkable 61% increase in sales across its vehicle portfolio compared to last year’s quarter, highlighting the company’s strength in the commercial market.
