The Forgotten Scat Pack Performance Packages:

Mopar's Scat Pack Performance Packages For The 5.7-liter HEMI...

When many modern Dodge fans hear the words “Scat Pack,” they assume that the vehicle they are talking about is either the Dodge Challenger or Dodge Charger performance trims featuring the 485 horsepower 6.4-liter (392 cubic-inch) SRT HEMI V8. However, there are a bunch of Dodge owners out there with Scat Pack versions of the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 as well.

No, we aren’t talking about the Daytona or T/A packages equipped with a 345 cubic-inch HEMI. Back in early 2014, Mopar released three performance packages for the Dodge Charger and Challenger called the Scat Pack performance stage kits. These kits were also released for the Chrysler 300 models equipped with the 5.7-liter HEMI, but there was no Scat Pack designation on the Chrysler models.

Some people have forgotten about them, so we thought we would briefly go over the “other modern Scat Pack” cars that are out there on the street.

The Scat Pack factory stage kits could help boost 5.7-liter HEMI performance up to an additional 58 horsepower and 47 lb.-ft. of torque depending on what stage kits you equipped your car with.

The Scat Pack Stage 1 performance kit offered up to an additional 18 horsepower and 18 lb.-ft of torque, included the following…

  • Mopar Cold Air Intake
  • Mopar Cat-Back Exhaust
  • Stage 1 Performance PCM
  • Mopar Low Restriction Oil Filter
  • (2) Scat Pack Stage 1 Badges

In order to upgrade to the Scat Pack Stage 2 performance kit, you had to equip your car with the Stage 1 kit. The two kits together could add an additional 30 horsepower to the 5.7-liter HEMI V8. The Scat Pack Stage 2 performance kit, included the following…

  • Mopar Performance Camshaft Kit
    • Camshaft
    • Tiebars
    • Heavy Duty Pushrods
    • Gaskets
  • Stage 2 Performance PCM
  • (2) Scat Pack Stage 2 Badges

Now by adding the Scat Pack Stage 3 performance kit with the other two kits, this is where you would achieve your 58 horsepower and 47 lb.-ft of additional 5.7-liter HEMI power. The Scat Pack Stage 3 kit included the following…

  • Mopar Performance CNC Ported Cylinder Heads
  • Mopar Hi-Flow Headers
  • Mopar Hi-Flow Catalysts
  • Stage 3 Performance PCM
  • (2) Scat Pack Stage 3 Badges

The overall package was very neat idea at the time. Dodge and Chrysler both showcased the performance packages on many of their concept cars, such as the…

Mopar ’15 Performance Kit for 2015 Dodge Charger R/T. (Mopar).

Mopar did offer the Scat Pack Stage 1 kit as part of it’s Mopar ’15 Performance Package for the 2015 Dodge Charger R/T. Only 50 of these kits were produced for the year, making it one of the rarest of the Mopar edition cars to date.

Scat Pack Stage Performance Kit Cost (all prices are in U.S.):

  • Scat Pack Stage 1 – $2,195
  • Scat Pack Stage 2 – $1,895
  • Scat Pack Stage 3 – $4,995

That is a total of $9,085 before taxes. If you add that to the price of an entry-level 2015 Dodge Charger R/T for $33,595 for a total of $42,680. That’s a lot more money than the new (at the time) $39,995 price on a 2015 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack with 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft of torque compared to the R/T Stage 3 power rating of 428 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft of torque.

So what happened to the performance kits? Well, the performance kits were short-lived, considering that the cost of the kits and the introduction of the R/T Scat Pack models for the 2015 model year pretty much put them to the wayside. But the performance kits are still available through Mopar.com and various other Mopar Performance Parts dealers, for 2013 to present Charger and Challenger R/T models.
