Based on the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty 4×4 Crew Cab, the Power Wagon continues its legacy as the most capable off-road pickup in the heavy-duty segment. It retains its signature formula of off-road-focused hardware, including a unique suspension with more than two inches of lift, front and rear locking differentials, and all the equipment that has made the nameplate iconic. The Power Wagon trim will return as part of the revamped 2019 Ram 2500 lineup.

According to our sources, the 6.4-liter HEMI® V8 will remain the heart of the Power Wagon. An automatic transmission will be standard, and while the current 66RFE six-speed still does the job, we’re hoping Ram replaces it with a new ZF-based eight-speed automatic. Thanks to spy photos from our sister site 5thGenRams.com, we also know Ram will retain the traditional column-mounted shifter—rather than adopting the rotary dial from the 2019 Ram 1500.

The 2019 Power Wagon benefits from substantial upgrades inside and out. The revised exterior adopts a more modern, squared-off appearance, full LED lighting, and updated tail lamps inspired by the 2019 Ram 1500—while still utilizing the 4th-generation pickup box. The trademark “Rebel-style” grille returns but with a more squared profile and an updated inter-grille section leading into the bold RAM lettering. Spy shots also reveal a panel in the center of the grille where the 360-degree front camera will be located on non-tow-mirror models.
Additional refinements include front parking sensors that are now more subtly integrated into the fog light area and lower grille surround, delivering a cleaner look than the outgoing model’s bumper-mounted setup.

As before, Ram is expected to offer a more basic Tradesman Crew Cab 4×4 configuration for customers who want Power Wagon hardware without the premium features. This model will skip the full LED lighting and some cosmetic elements but will retain the full suite of off-road equipment, including the WARN 12,000-lb electric winch behind the front bumper, electronic locking differentials, disconnecting front sway bar, underbody protection, and the lifted off-road suspension.
Given Ram’s launch cadence—and following the debut of the 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel—expect the 2019 Ram 2500 Power Wagon to take the stage in January at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Michigan.
