Based on the Dodge D150 Utiline step-side pickup, the 1979 Dodge Li’l Red Express captures the spirit of American muscle trucks from its era. Adorned in a vibrant red finish with striking gold graphics, this beauty turns heads wherever it goes. The refurbishment process involved carefully removing the cab and bed from the frame and repainting them in the original red hue, restoring the truck’s timeless appearance.

The Li’l Red Express boasts an array of eye-catching exterior features. Stacked headlights, Li’l Red Express Truck graphics, and a gleaming chrome grille give it a distinctive look. The chrome bumpers, mirrors, and exhaust stacks further accentuate its bold presence. Completing the ensemble are the chrome-finished 15-inch slotted wheels wrapped in white-lettered 235/70 Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires, exuding a touch of vintage charm. The attention to detail is truly remarkable.

Slide into the cozy cabin of this Li’l Red Express, and you’ll find a tastefully appointed interior. The black vinyl upholstery on the three individual seats, complemented by bright trim on the seatbacks, exudes a sense of timeless elegance. The color-keyed dashboard, carpeting, and door panels add to the truck’s overall appeal. Convenience features include a Kenwood stereo, heater/defroster, vent windows, a sliding rear window, and a folding center backrest. It’s a cabin designed to provide comfort and style.

Under the hood lies the heart of the Li’l Red Express—a rebuilt 5.9-liter (360 cubic-inch) Express V8 engine. Equipped with a Carter ThermoQuad four-barrel carburetor and a Comp Cams camshaft, this powerhouse delivers exhilarating performance and an unforgettable driving experience. Paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, power is seamlessly transferred to the rear wheels. The recent oil change in May 2023 ensures optimal performance and reliability for the lucky new owner.

The selling dealer offers partial service records dating back to 2001, along with manufacturer’s literature, old photos, and a New York title. Two pre-refurbishment photos and articles about the Li’l Red Express contribute to the truck’s fascinating history. The New York title indicates the odometer reading as “Exempt – Vehicle over 10 Years Old,” which aligns with the classic nature of this cherished vehicle.

I had a Little Red Express back in 1983. Paid $5,000. Didn't need anything. Had around 50, 000 miles on it. I raced it at the local track. 15.50s @87mph. Sold it in 1986 for $6,000. Wish I had kept it. At the time it would beat most of the new cars of the period. Mine had the standard bench seat but it did have A/C.
