CAUGHT: 2019 Ram 2500 Laramie Crew Cab 4×4:

Big Rig Styling Meets New Technology...

We have been talking a lot about the upcoming Ram Heavy Duty models lately. While many of us love the all-new Ram 1500, there are some people that still miss the much more distinct “big rig” styling of the previous generation. Well spy photographers have caught another variant of the heavily updated 2019 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty pickups testing on public roads, and for those who still want that aggressive “big rig” styling this truck is for you.

Caught testing on public highways with minimal camouflage, this Ram 2500 Heavy Duty (since the windshield has the “DJ” platform code on it, stating it is indeed a 2500) is our first look at an upper trim level equipped Ram Heavy Duty for the 2019 model year.

This model appears to be a Laramie trim level, which gives us a first look at the new LED head lamps that have been hiding underneath all that heavy black camouflage we have been seeing all summer long. The new head lamps carry the same shape of the 2019 Ram 2500 Tradesman models we have been showing you with a much more squared look around the edges. The head lamps again lead into the grille. We can see what looks to be a camera underneath where the “A” would be in the RAM text in the grille.

As we have been stating that this a heavily updated version of the current 4th generation Ram Heavy Duty, we do see that this Crew Cab model does not have the panoramic sunroof like the 2019 Ram 1500. However, we do see is does have a sunroof option still similar to the current one offered on the Heavy Duty. We are told for the reason being that the roof structure isn’t has strong as the current 5th generation Ram 1500 and thus could not adopt the panoramic sunroof from its little half-ton brother.

This particular model has standard running boards that go past the cab and reach to rear wheels for easier access to the box. We do know that optional power folding running boards will be optional and offered as standard equipment on higher models, according to the spy shots we have seen.

Judging by the all-black roof headliner inside the cab as well as the black exterior paint found on the roof, this model would fall in line with options found on a Laramie Black model.

Looking at the back of the cab, we can see that this updated Ram gets a third brake light consisting of LEDs and rear bed camera. The same unit found on the current Heavy Duty models as an option.

Judging by the size of the exhaust we can tell that this particular Ram 2500 prototype is powered by the 6.4-liter HEMI “BGE” or Big Gas Engine V8 that is currently offered. We do not know if the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 will return for standard powertrain duty in the updated Ram.

On the rear of the truck, we see that like what we pointed out with the Tradesman model caught earlier the tail lamp shape matches the 4th generation Ram. This means that even though the tail lamps like they are from the 1500, they are unique to the new Ram Heavy Duty.

We can’t wait to see more variants of this new truck on the road. Stay tuned to 5thGenRams.com and MoparInsiders.com for all the latest Ram Heavy Duty news.
