Jeep® Won’t Be Able To Show Off It’s New Two-Row Grand Cherokee 4xe In New York!

New York International Auto Show Has Been Canceled Again!

During the Stellantis EV Day 2021 presentation last month, the Jeep® brand gave the public a couple of quick seconds of teaser shots of its all-new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WL74). The American adventure brand announced that it would be showing off the vehicle to the public for the first time at this month’s New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). However, that will not happen as the event has now been canceled once again due to fears over the Delta variant of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The press team for the NYIAS released an official statement earlier this afternoon.

“It is with great disappointment that the upcoming 2021 New York International Auto Show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center has been canceled due to the growing incidences of the COVID-19 Delta variant and the increased measures announced recently by State and local officials to stop its spread,” the statement said. “As custodians of the 121-year-old New York Auto Show, we are committed to providing a safe environment for everyone including attendees, exhibitors, and the thousands of men and women who put the show together. Over the past few weeks, and especially within the last few days, circumstances have changed making it more difficult to create an event at the high standard that we and our clients expect.”

The statement concluded, “We firmly believe that will be the case when the show returns to its regular spring schedule in April 2022.”

The news of the auto show cancelation comes as United Auto Worker (UAW) employees for the Big-3 automakers are now mandated to wear face masks at manufacturing and warehouse facilities, despite being vaccinated or not. Over the last 24 hours, social media accounts for the UAW and its various local unions have been filled with questions and statements from workers, regarding the decision.

With the production launch of the WL74 scheduled to start in late September, it is safe to say that Jeep will more than likely do a webcast for the vehicle’s reveal like the brand did for the Grand Cherokee L (WL75) earlier this year.

The WL74 will mark the first time that the Grand Cherokee nameplate will be electrified with the introduction of the Grand Cherokee 4xe. It is another step towards the brand expanding electrification within its lineup and strengthening the brand’s new vision of “Zero Emission, 100% Freedom”.
