Jeep® Brazil Prepares for 2025 Compass Powertrain Overhaul

Compass Offering A Number Of Powertrain Options For 2025 In Brazilian Marketplace...

Jeep® Brazil is gearing up to launch the 2025 Jeep Compass (M1). While the Compass received an important styling change two model years ago, the Brazilian-built Compass will be getting a revamped powertrain lineup for 2025, which includes gasoline (ethanol), diesel, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engines.

The entry-level engine for the 2025 Jeep Compass will continue to be the 1.3 Turbo Flex T270 engine. This turbocharged 1.3-liter inline-four-cylinder is part of the FireFly or Stellantis Global Small Engine (GSE) family and was popular in the North American Jeep Renegade (BV). However, for Compass duty, the 1.3 Turbo Flex T270 produces 185 horsepower (ethanol), 182 horsepower (gasoline), and 199 lb.-ft. (270 Nm) of torque. The 1.3 Turbo Flex is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Under the hood of the diesel models is a turbocharged 2.0-liter Multijet II inline-four-cylinder diesel making 170 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. (350 Nm) of torque. Each of the TD350 models comes with a 9-speed automatic and four-wheel-drive (4×4) as standard equipment. The combination is good for 10.3 km/l in the city and 13.5 km/l on the highway (24 mpg city and 32 mpg on the highway). This means the turbodiesel Compass models have a range of more than 800 km (about 500 miles) with a 60-liter (16-gallon) fuel tank. For 2025, the TD350 will only be offered on the Limited trim.

For those looking for a more environmentally friendly option, there is the Compass 4xe PHEV. The Compass 4xe powertrain integrates two electric motors and an 11.4 kWh battery pack, with a fuel-efficient 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. This architecture provides two cars in one – a battery-electric vehicle featuring an electric motor and a high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack on the rear axle and a conventional vehicle with an internal combustion engine (ICE) fitted on the front axle.

Two electric motors, one of which is located on the front axle and coupled to the ICE that, in addition to working in synergy with the engine, can act as a high-voltage generator, as necessary. The second motor is located on the rear axle and features reduction gear and integrated differential (also known as the “e-axle”). It delivers 60 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. (250 Nm) of torque, generating traction and recovering energy while braking.

When it comes to performance, there will be a new engine that we in North America are familiar with: the turbocharged 2.0 Turbo Flex T400 engine. The turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four-cylinder engine is part of the Stellantis Global Medium Engine (GME) family and powers a number of vehicles, including the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Jeep® Wrangler, and North American Jeep Compass. The T400 will deliver 272 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. (400 Nm) of torque. It guarantees top-tier performance, is constructed entirely of aluminum, and is equipped with direct injection and double variable valve control. It will be paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and 4×4 traction. A new Blackhawk model and the luxurious Overland trim will launch with the T400 engine.

Brazil continues to be one of the largest markets for the Compass, and Jeep shows that it will continue to offer a diverse lineup of its compact SUV customers. The Brazilian-built Compass, alongside its sibling, the Renegade, and three-row Commander, continues to push the Jeep brand as the country’s best-selling SUV brand.

The Compass as we know it is to be replaced in a couple of years. Maybe that's the reason we don't get the 4Xe version. I wonder where the e-axle for the Brazilian Compass is sourced from. Will it come from somewhere in Latin America or will they use a Euro built unit?

The European Compass and Renegades offer an e-Hybrid option. This drivetrain uses the 1.5 liter GSE with a Magna built 7-speed dual clutch hybrid transmission. The system also has an e-axle, and is a 48V mild hybrid.

What is in the North American future?
