Stellantis Marks 60 Years At Kokomo Casting Plant
A Legacy Of Innovation, Community, and American Craftsmanship

For six decades, Stellantis’ Kokomo Casting Plant (KCP) in Indiana has stood as a cornerstone of American manufacturing. This year, the world’s largest die-cast facility marked its 60th anniversary with a Family Day celebration that welcomed nearly 2,300 employees, retirees, and guests—including Kokomo Mayor Tyler Moore.
A Plant Like No Other –

Since opening in 1965, Kokomo Casting has been producing aluminum castings that are critical to engines, transmissions, and driveline systems for millions of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, and Ram vehicles. Today, it remains the only Stellantis plant worldwide that casts components for both engines and transmissions—a distinction that underscores its importance within the company’s North American operations.
With 625,000 square feet of floor space on 35 acres, the plant continues to evolve alongside the auto industry. More than 900 highly skilled United Auto Workers (UAW)-represented employees keep the operation running strong, manufacturing 46 different aluminum castings. From traditional gasoline powertrains to future-ready electrified components, Kokomo Casting is preparing Stellantis for the road ahead.
Celebrating the People Behind the Plant –

“Today is about honoring and celebrating the people of KCP,” said Jeremy Agnew, Vice President and Plant Manager. “Their skill, dedication, and pride have made this plant a benchmark for excellence for 60 years.”
Guests at the event toured the facility, viewed exhibits of precision-made castings, signed a commemorative plaque, and enjoyed games, music, and food. Mayor Moore also praised the plant for its long-standing contributions to both Stellantis and the Kokomo community:
“On behalf of a grateful city, I commend the Stellantis Kokomo Casting Plant on its 60th anniversary, and extend the city’s heartfelt gratitude for their continued investment in Kokomo’s prosperity, innovation and identity.”
Investments For The Future –

Over its history, Kokomo Casting has seen multiple expansions and billions in investments, positioning it for future growth. Notable projects include:
-
2010–2013: More than $1 billion invested to adapt for new World Engine castings, advanced 8-speed transmissions, and later, 9-speed transmission cases.
-
2022: Stellantis invested $14 million at KCP to prepare for production of new 1.6-liter turbocharged engine blocks compatible with hybrid-electric (HEV) technology. This engine will make its debut in the upcoming 2026 Jeep® Cherokee (KM).
-
2023: A $155 million investment across Kokomo plants included retooling at KCP for casting electric drive module (EDM) gearbox covers, key components for Stellantis’ next generation of EVs.
Production of these EDM components is expected to start in late 2024, helping Stellantis reach its target of 50% battery-electric sales in the U.S. by 2030.
Six Decades Strong –

From casting millions of four-speed transmission cases in the late 20th century to pioneering the components for electrified powertrains today, Kokomo Casting’s story is one of resilience and innovation. The plant’s legacy is powered by the generations of workers—past, present, and future—who have made it a source of pride not just for Stellantis, but also for the Kokomo community.
