Without a doubt, the second-generation Dodge Ram 1500 (BR) was a game changer. After being left in the dust by General Motors (GM) and Ford Motor Company in the full-size pickup market, Chrysler Corporation introduced its polarizing “big rig” styled full-size pickup for the 1994 model year. The truck would go on to become such a huge hit for the automaker, that it would go on to influence the entire Dodge brand for decades to come.
While we were cruising the auction list for this weekend’s Mecum Harrisburg event, we stumbled upon this handsome 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie SLT Regular Cab Long Box 4×4. But what makes this two-owner example so special is that it only has 16,576 original miles on the odometer. That’s right! Talk about low mileage.
Under the hood, is the iconic 5.9-liter (360 cubic-inch) Magnum V8. In its 1997 Ram 1500 form, the mighty Magnum delivered 230 horsepower @ 4,000 rpm and 330 lb.-ft. of torque @ 3,200 rpm. It was mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The powertrain is capable of 7,700 lbs. of towing and a maximum GCWR of 12,500 lbs.
While we haven’t seen the truck in person, judging by the photos submitted, the truck looks to be in pretty amazing shape for its age. Equipped with a AM/FM Cassette stereo, 40/20/40 bench seat with folding center armrest, floor-mounted shift-on-the-fly 4×4 shifter, power windows, power locks, Mopar tow hitch, and sliding rear window, this Ram 1500 brings us back to the days of good looking simplified full-size trucks. Something we miss greatly.
The truck comes with matching fiberglas cap, as well as, painted matching side steps.
