Alfa Romeo Won’t Offer “Meter Wide” Touchscreens In Future Cars

Says New Interior Designs, Won't Take Away From The Driver's Experience...

Alfa Romeo, the renowned Italian automaker, has unveiled its plans to launch an exciting series of new models in the coming years. Led by CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato, the company aims to strike a harmonious balance between incorporating advanced technology and maintaining a driver-centric experience.

In a recent interview with Autocar, Imparato shared intriguing insights into the direction of Alfa Romeo’s future cars, emphasizing the importance of meeting customer preferences and preserving the brand’s renowned driving pleasure. Let’s delve into the details of what we can expect from Alfa Romeo’s upcoming lineup.

Imparato asserted that Alfa Romeo’s future vehicles will continue to prioritize the driver’s experience. While the interiors will undoubtedly feature enhanced technological elements, there will not be a radical revolution in this regard. Through extensive customer studies, Alfa Romeo discovered that their clientele favors a more restrained approach to in-car technology.

Rather than overwhelming the cabin with excessive gadgets and screens, Alfa Romeo will adopt a more measured approach. The new models will feature larger screens compared to their predecessors, but the dimensions will vary depending on the specific model. These screens will provide essential information to facilitate and enhance the driving experience. However, Alfa Romeo will consciously avoid incorporating superfluous or gimmicky technologies that customers deem unnecessary.

Alfa Romeo’s research revealed that customers appreciate the brand’s evocative cannocchiale (telescopic) double-cowled instrument panel, which offers easy access to important controls and features. Imparato reassured enthusiasts that this unique and beloved feature will continue to be an integral part of Alfa Romeo’s future vehicle interiors. Despite this focus on classic elements, Alfa Romeo will not shy away from embracing new technologies when they serve a practical purpose.

In 2025, Alfa Romeo plans to introduce its next-generation technology platform, known as STLA Brain, developed by its parent company, Stellantis. This cutting-edge platform will provide a foundation for advanced features and ensure seamless integration of technology within Alfa Romeo’s future vehicles.

Imparato emphasized that Alfa Romeo’s commitment to driving pleasure remains unwavering. While the upcoming models will incorporate driver assistance and semi-autonomous driving systems, Alfa Romeo will be highly selective in their implementation. The aim is to provide only those features that genuinely enhance safety and convenience without compromising the core driving experience. Alfa Romeo aims to differentiate itself by prioritizing quality over quantity in terms of driver assistance technology.

With a reputation for breathtaking design, exceptional performance, and luxurious features, Alfa Romeo plans to continue astonishing enthusiasts and industry experts alike with its future lineup. While specific details remain under wraps, it is clear that Alfa Romeo intends to strike a perfect balance between tradition and innovation, delighting drivers who seek a blend of timeless driving pleasure and modern-day technology.

“I respect what Mercedes is doing with its digital technology, of course,” Imparato told Autocar, “but my customers aren’t looking for metre-wide infotainment screens in their cars or 200 digital assistance systems to switch on and off. We’re developing our technology, and you will see what we’re working on in 2025 when Alfa Romeo becomes the first to deploy the Stellantis group’s all-new electronic architecture, STLA Brain. But it won’t change how our cars speak or appeal to our customers. We must continue to play to our strengths.”

My sons Mercedes had one and it really lacked that cockpit feel I like. Agree with Triple T and glad Alfa Romeo is keeping their attractive interior theme.
