Alfa Romeo’s Latest Quadrifoglio Commercial Daunts Viper Driver:

Alfa Romeo Teases Viper Driver With New High Performance Stelvio...

Because of the COVID-19 (or Coronavirus) pandemic, the Alfa Romeo brand had to put a hold on launching the brand’s Quadrifoglio lineup for 2020. While the 2020 Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio models have already hit dealers lots around the world, the brand hasn’t had the chance to discuss the upgrades to its performance lineup.

Due to the current circumstances, Alfa Romeo decided to hold a press conference which was conducted from the Alfa Romeo team’s own homes via web conferencing. In the press conference, the premium Italian brand released its first commercial of the new Quadrifoglio lineup featuring Alfa Romeo Racing’s own Kimi Räikkönen.

In the commercial, Räikkönen and his wife, Minttu are stopped at a traffic light when a black third-generation (GEN III) Dodge Viper SRT-10 Coupe pulls up alongside the red 2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio.  That is when Räikkönen and the Viper driver make eye contact, and Kimi puts the Stelvio into RACE mode using the Alfa™ DNA Pro Selector which opens up the new exclusive high-performance exhaust system made in conjunction with Akrapovič from Mopar.

Hearing the 510 horsepower twin-turbocharged V6 the Viper driver calmly drives away. While we completely disagree that anyone in a 505 horsepower Dodge Viper SRT-10 would just lightly pull away from someone tempting them from a quick drag race, we understand Alfa Romeo’s decision not to showcase what would have been an interesting drag race in today’s politically correct world.

Alfa’s Stelvio Quadrifoglio puts down some impressive numbers like a 0-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 176 mph from its Ferrari-derived twin-turbocharged V-6 engine. The GEN III Viper SRT-10 held some impressive numbers back in the day, with a 0-60 mph of 3.8 seconds, a top speed of 191 mph, and a quarter-mile time of 12.6 @ 120 mph. So we don’t doubt that it would have been a good race.

While it may seem that Alfa Romeo is making fun of the Dodge Viper, a funny known fact is that the Italian brand used the underpinnings of the Dodge Viper to create a very limited-edition Alfa Romeo Zagato TZ3 Stradale. The TZ3 Stradale was to pay tribute to legendary Giulia TZ race cars. It used the Dodge Viper ACR-X powertrain, chassis, and much of its interior, while a custom body from Zagato highlighted the exterior. Only 9 examples were ever made.
