FCA Recalls 1.4 Million Vehicles For Takata Airbag Recall:

Fourth And Final Recall For Issue FCA Says...

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced earlier this week, the fourth and final stage of the massive Takata passenger airbag recall. In this latest recall, 1.4 million FCA vehicle owners will be notified about their vehicles being issued for the recall due to faulty airbag inflators. According to FCA, the company has already replaced more than 4 million of the faulty airbags inflators since the recall began and after Takata announced the issue.

The FCA vehicles affected in this recall include the following…

  • 2010 Ram 3500/4500/5500 trucks
  • 2010 to 2011 Dodge Dakota trucks
  • 2011 to 2015 Dodge Charger sedans
  • 2010 to 2014 Dodge Challenger coupes
  • 2010 to 2015 Chrysler 300 sedans
  • 2010 to 2015 Jeep Wrangler (JK) SUVs

FCA isn’t the only automaker affected with Takata’s recall of the faulty airbag inflators. Automakers such as Ford, Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, BMW, Audi, General Motors, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar and Land Rover models have also been affected. The recall has been completed in several stages to allow manufacturers to make sure there is enough replacement parts to replace the recalled items. More than 37 million vehicles just in the U.S. carried the faulty Takata airbags.

The faulty Takata airbag inflator defect has been responsible for the deaths of 23 people and nearly 300 others have been injured according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA). NHTSA stated the recall has been going on for the past 10 years and has involved over 30 million vehicles, with more than 50 million of the faulty inflators elsewhere around the globe.

The NHTSA sold has stated that they estimate that 16.7 million of the airbag inflators have yet to been replaced in the U.S. according to their latest release.

FCA will be sending owners recall statements in the mail immediately.  There are estimated to be over 88,000 of these affected vehicles in Canada, over 12,000 in Mexico and around 118,000 around the globe that FCA will be contacting the owners, as well.
