Ram 1500 Special Service Vehicle (SSV) Returns For 2019 Under Classic Nameplate:

DS Model Returns To Serve And Protect:

While the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 has been making all of the headlines under the Ram umbrella, Ram will offer both the outgoing 2019 Ram 1500, known internally as the “DS” model, and the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 (“DT”) at its North American dealers through the 2018 calendar year. The outgoing “DS” model will carry the Classic nameplate for 2019.

“As we launch the all-new 2019 Ram 1500, we didn’t want to walk away from a key part of the light-duty truck market,” said Mike Manley, CEO of FCA and Head of Ram Brand. “Ram will continue to produce the 1500 Classic targeted at entry and commercial buyers.”

The 2019 Ram 1500 Classic is limited to select trim models. Offered in four trim levels, Tradesman, Express, Big Horn/Lone Star and SSV (Special Services Vehicle).

The 2019 Ram 1500 SSV returns to the FCA US Fleet Law Enforcement lineup. The SSV is powered by the 5.7L-liter HEMI® V8 engine that pumps out 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The HEMI® V8 engine also gets a heavy duty engine oil cooler. For improved efficiency, Fuel Saver Technology deactivates half of the engine’s cylinders when less power is needed. The HEMI® V8 engine also features Stop/Start technology for improved efficiency by shutting down the engine when it would normally idle and automatically restarting it when the brake pedal is released. A 6-speed automatic transmission with column shifter is standard on the package.

The RamBox Cargo Management System offers officers two lockable and illuminated side cargo bins with a bed extender/divider and adjustable tie-down cleats are available. The Ram 1500 Classic SSV also includes a 220-amp alternator, special certified instrument cluster, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), as well as a standard 10-way power adjustable cloth front bench seat to make an officer’s shift more comfortable. While a vinyl rear-folding seat makes a easy to maintain area in the rear of the cab.

Standard is the 3.55 rear axle ratio, while a 3.92 rear axle ratio is available. With the 3.92 rear axle ratio, a towing rating of 10, 170lbs is available. The truck also comes standard with an electronic part-time transfer case. 17-inch steel wheels are standard. This combination allows the SSV to be a package that can be comfortable on the street and off-road.

Agencies can equip the truck with an optional Chrome Appearance Package, to give the truck more of an upscale look. Other optional packages are the Protection Group. The Protection Group includes tow hooks and skid plates for the transfer case and front suspension. Also there is a Remote Start and Security Group that includes security alarm and remote start system.
