797 Horsepower Dodge Durango SRT Pursuit To Run One Lap Of America:

Dodge//SRT Engineering Builds HELLCAT Redeye-Powered SUV...

Tomorrow kicks off the 36th annual Tire Rack One Lap of America Presented by Grassroots Motorsports Magazine. The annual road rally is the successor to the Cannonball Run which in itself was a huge underground race running across the country for the fastest time. In modern times the One Lap of America shares the same spirit of the Cannonball, however, it this event respects traffic laws and instead makes the checkpoints consist of different motorsports challenges that are then accumulated for times to name an overall champion in the different classes.

In order to defend it’s win last year in the One Lap Truck/SUV class title, the Dodge//SRT engineering team is bringing another Dodge Durango SRT to the event this year. Codenamed “Speed Trap”, the SRT engineering team have put the 797 horsepower SRT HELLCAT Redeye motor in its Durango SRT platform and decked it out within its law enforcement Durango Pursuit trim.

That’s right, Dodge has stuffed the massive Redeye engine in its performance SUV. We recently told you that SRT engineers were looking on a HELLCAT variant of the Durango SRT for production, but now we are seeing that this might be a tease for what is coming down the pipeline.

According to the official press release from Dodge//SRT, the Durango SRT Pursuit “Speed Trap” concept is purpose-built for the One Lap of America event and offers an array of Mopar performance parts to add additional performance to its 797 horsepower configuration. Some of those Mopar performance parts include a free-flow stainless cat-back exhaust, concept lowering springs to lower the height of the vehicle 15mm, custom 20-inch x 11-inch wheels on a set of the same tires (305/35ZR20 Pirelli P-Zero tires) from the SRT HELLCAT Widebody, and massive 15.75-inch Brembo two-piece vented rotors with six-piston calipers painted with a distinctive red finish and 13.78-inch Brembo vented rotors with four-piston red calipers in the rear.

Dodge//SRT engineers did not touch the stock ZF-sourced TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic or its SRT-based all-wheel-drive system.

On the exterior, the “Speed Trap” carries out its law enforcement motif with a Whelen Ceridian Series lightbar and Durango Pursuit graphics.

Inside, the second and third-row seating was removed for weight savings. Engineers equipped the “Speed Trap” with a four-point roll bar and five-point driver safety harness. With the seats removed, it also allows the team to transport the necessary equipment to compete in the week-long event, without having to tow a trailer like most of the competitors do.

Competitors will drive close to 4,000 miles of public roads and visit seven states (some twice) and eight tracks over seven days. The detailed schedule includes:
