Jeep® Recalls 338,238 Grand Cherokee (WL) Models For Upper Control Arms

Upper Control Arm Ball Joint and Steering Knuckle That May Separate...

Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 338,238 units of its popular 2021 to 2023 Jeep® Grand Cherokee L (WL75) and 2022 to 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WL74) for an issue with the upper control arm (UCA) ball joint and steering knuckle that may separate, causing the wheel to fall outward and resulting in a loss of vehicle control.

2022 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. (Jeep).

A damaged pinch bolt may break and result in the loss of clamp load between the UCA ball joint and the knuckle. A loss of clamp load may result in the UCA separating from the knuckle and the wheel falling outboard, which can cause a crash without prior warning.

Drivers may notice an abnormal noise when driving over bumps.

The suspect period for the three-row Grand Cherokee L began on December 3, 2020, when the first 2021 MY vehicle was produced and ended on May 30, 2023, when the UCA torque strategy was updated at the vehicle assembly plant. For the two-row Grand Cherokee, the suspect period began on December 19, 2021, when the first 2022 MY vehicle was produced and ended on May 30, 2023, when the UCA torque strategy was updated at the vehicle assembly plant. Vehicle production torque records were used to identify the suspect period.

This is exactly the issue mine had. Glad to see they’re finally recalling it. Horrible sound from the front suspension going over bumps, and it took 5-6 tries for the dealer to find it.

I am no mechanic but this sounds serious. I am looking for a 2022 Grand Cherokee and came across this recall but am now second guessing buying one until this is fixed. For those who know more than I (probably everybody) am I over-reacting?
