The Dodge Challenger Model That Dodge Should Have Built

HEMI-Power, 8-Speed Auto, and AWD...

In 2015, Dodge introduced a one-of-a-kind muscle car concept at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show: the Dodge Challenger GT AWD. This car offered the perfect combination of power, performance, and added traction with its all-wheel drive feature.

The exterior of the Challenger GT AWD Concept was a true standout, with its striking combination of Header Orange and Destroyer Grey paint. The wide body kit and massive wheel flares gave the car an aggressive profile, while the concept Mopar five-spoke wheels completed the look. The interior of the car was just as impressive, featuring rich Katzkin leather seats with Header Orange stitching and medium taupe suede inserts.

Under the hood, the Challenger GT AWD Concept boasted a 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine that was upgraded with the Scat Pack 3 Performance Kit. This added up to 75 more horsepower and an additional 44 lb.-ft. of torque, thanks to Mopar Performance CNC-ported cylinder heads, hi-flow manifolds and catalysts, and two Scat Pack 3 badges. The engine was paired with an 8-speed transmission and an AWD package that powered all four wheels.

The Challenger GT AWD Concept also featured a concept Mopar suspension kit and production Mopar performance front and rear strut tower braces, which lowered the car’s center of gravity for race-inspired handling.

Overall, the Dodge Challenger GT AWD Concept was a true masterpiece, offering both the thrill of speed and the confidence of added traction. It was a true standout in the muscle car world and a testament to Dodge’s commitment to producing powerful and innovative vehicles.

Additionally, considering how successful the HEMI-AWD combination was in the Charger and 300, it’s hard not to imagine how awesome it would have been to see a Dodge Challenger with HEMI power and AWD make it into production. The Challenger GT AWD Concept provided a tantalizing glimpse of what could have been, but unfortunately, it never went into full production. Nonetheless, the idea of a Challenger with both HEMI power and AWD remains a dream for many muscle car enthusiasts.
