Sterling Stamping To Have More Layoffs Effective Immediately!
Could Be Close To An Additional 100 Employees...
Stellantis announced that it would immediately lay off more employees at its Sterling Heights Stamping Plant (Sterling Stamping) in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 1264, which represents the workers of Sterling Stamping, was notified about the decision on Tuesday afternoon that indefinite layoffs are expected to begin as early as Monday.
“The Leadership was officially notified by Management that they want to begin an indefinite lay-off (from the bottom up) starting as early as Monday, June 20, 2022,” Local 1264 President LaShawn English wrote in the letter, which was sent to members and posted to the unit’s Facebook page. “The Leadership will continue to update the Membership as information becomes available.“
The company had already laid off close to 100 people in March. While Stellantis hasn’t released how many employees will be laid off in this latest round, sources close to MoparInsiders.com say it could be close to 100 more.
The 2.74 million-square-foot facility produces stampings and assemblies including hoods, roofs, liftgates, side apertures, fenders, and floor pans for vehicles like the Dodge Durango (WD), the Chrysler minivan trio including the Pacifica, Voyager, and Grand Caravan (RU), Jeep® Cherokee (KL), Jeep Grand Cherokee (WL), Ram 1500 (DT) and Ram 1500 Classic (DS).
In 2019, company officials announced a $160 million investment in the plant that would create 80 jobs.
That plant currently employs around 2,100 people, including nearly 2,000 hourly workers.
