Stellantis Recalls Over 121,000 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Models

Second-Row Head Restraints May Fail To Lock Upright

Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 121,398 units of its 2023 to 2024 Jeep® Grand Cherokee (WL74) and Grand Cherokee L (WL75) due to a defect in the second-row head restraints. The issue involves an internal locking mechanism that may not properly secure the head restraint in the upright position, thereby violating Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 202a, “Head Restraints.”

If the head restraint fails to lock in place, it may remain folded forward, potentially increasing the risk of injury to rear-seat occupants in certain crash scenarios.

The Recall Affects:

2024 Jeep® Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve. (Jeep).
  • 78,157 units of the 2023–2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WL74), built between May 16, 2023, and May 2, 2024

  • 43,241 units of the 2023–2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L (WL75), built between May 16, 2023, and January 30, 2024

The affected production periods were identified using vehicle manufacturing and supplier records. Vehicles built outside of these timeframes, or those equipped with head restraints that do not have the interference condition, are not included in the recall.

Recall Chronology:

2024 Jeep® Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve. (Jeep).
  • On August 13, 2024, FCA US LLC’s Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (TSRC) organization opened an investigation into a potential issue involving second-row head restraints that may not lock upright on certain 2023 and 2024 model year Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L vehicles.

  • From August 2024 through May 2025, TSRC worked with FCA US engineering and manufacturing teams to review the issue, understand the failure mode, analyze customer records, and determine the suspect population.

  • On June 11, 2025, TSRC identified a vehicle build issue affecting certain vehicles where the second-row head restraints may not lock in the upright position, potentially leading to noncompliance with FMVSS No. 202a.

  • On July 10, 2025, FCA US determined through its Vehicle Regulations Committee that a noncompliance with FMVSS No. 202a exists in the affected vehicles.

Remedy:

2024 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve 4xe. (Jeep).

Dealers will inspect and replace both second-row seat head restraints, as necessary, at no additional charge.
