Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling four units of its popular Jeep® Wrangler (JL) SUVs for a power distribution center that may prevent the trailer turn signal lights and taillights from operating as intended. As such, these four vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108 requirements, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
These vehicles are equipped with the Trailer Tow Option (“TTO”) and may have been built with an incorrect Power Distribution Center (“PDC”) that prevents the trailer lighting from functioning properly.
According to the recall, the suspect period began on January 4, 2024, when the first suspect vehicle was produced and ended on January 18, 2024, when the last suspect vehicle was produced. Engineering change and vehicle production records were used to determine the suspect period.
Recall Chronology –
- On January 22, 2024, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of a potential issue related to the PDC on some 2024 MY Jeep Wrangler vehicles.
- From January 2024 through May 2024, FCA US TSRC met with FCA US engineering and manufacturing to review the issue, understand the failure mode, and determine the suspect population.
- On May 1, 2024, the FCA US TSRC organization recognized that certain vehicles had a vehicle build issue related to the incorrect PDC. This issue can lead to inoperative turn signals and stop lamps, potentially resulting in noncompliance with FMVSS No. 108.
- On May 31, 2024, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.
Dealers will replace the power distribution center free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 26, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC’s number for this recall is 57B.
