Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) has recalled approximately 32,863 units of its 2018 to 2024 Jeep® Wrangler (JL) and 2020 to 2024 Jeep Gladiator (JT) due to potential failures in the instrument panel clusters (IPCs). These clusters may experience an internal short circuit, causing the display to become blank, which violates the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 101, “Controls and Displays.” A blank IPC can divert the driver’s attention, potentially leading to a crash.
This issue affects vehicles equipped with a 3.5-inch IPC, which was installed during specific production periods:
- The suspect period for the Jeep Wrangler began on January 26, 2018, and ended on May 17, 2024. A total of 21,309 Wranglers are affected.
- The suspect period for the Jeep Gladiator began on June 8, 2019, and ended on May 18, 2024. A total of 11,554 Gladiators are affected.
Vehicles not included in the recall either do not have the 3.5-inch IPC, were built outside the suspect period, or have exceeded 28 months in service for older and 12 months for newer models.
Recall Chronology –
- On October 14, 2022, FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of a potential issue related to blank IPCs on some 2018-2024 MY Jeep Wrangler and 2020-2024 MY Jeep Gladiator vehicles.
- From October 2022 through August 2024, FCA US TSRC conducted an analysis of IPC failure patterns and warranty return part analysis and worked with supplier operations to conduct testing. The analysis determined that the affected vehicles may have been built with IPCs that experienced an internal short circuit and became blank.
- On August 7, 2024, the FCA US TSRC organization recognized a vehicle build issue existed on certain vehicles related to a condition that can lead to failure of the IPC, potentially resulting in noncompliance with FMVSS No. 101.
- On August 30, 2024, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.
