Stellantis Offering Buyouts at Turin Plant Ahead of Fiat 500 Hybrid Launch
Voluntary Cuts Open Door for New Hires in Italy

Stellantis is offering voluntary buyouts to 610 workers at its Mirafiori Assembly Plant in Turin, Italy, as part of a broader workforce reduction strategy in the country. The move is designed to make room for younger workers ahead of the production start-up for a new hybrid Fiat 500 city car, according to a report by Reuters.
The automaker confirmed the offer on Monday, saying the buyout program is geared toward workers nearing retirement or those looking for a different career path. Workers at the Mirafiori facility have until the end of July to apply.

This buyout plan is part of a larger effort that could see Stellantis cut up to 1,660 jobs across Italy in 2024. Similar packages were agreed upon earlier this year at the company’s Melfi and Pomigliano plants.
Mirafiori, once a cornerstone of Italian auto production, will see its workforce stabilized in August to prepare for full-scale production of the Fiat 500 Hybrid (Ibrida), which is set to begin in November.

Union leader Luigi Paone of Uilm, which supported the plan, said the goal is to refresh the workforce while providing a smoother transition for older employees.
“The plan should serve to pave the way for the hiring of young workers as we approach the production start-up of the hybrid 500,” Paone said.

Stellantis, formed in 2021 by the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and PSA Group, has steadily reduced its Italian workforce from 55,000 in early 2021 to under 40,000 today.
As the company shifts focus to electrification and hybrid platforms, restructuring like this is likely to continue across European operations, especially in legacy plants adapting to new vehicle technologies.
